I'm using Ridata DVD+R DL media, on a Pioneer A09 w/1.58 firmware, to burn a Dual Layer dvd image.

Using Imburn v1.2.0.0, the burn is successful, but during verify, I get an error right at the layer break. I've burnt two copies with the same results. The media seems to play fine in my standalone, but my Lite-On xj-hd166s dvd-rom gives me a read error.

Is the quality of my media causing this issue, or is there something else I'm overlooking?

Your Lite-On xj-hd166s dvd-rom may simply not be capable of reading burned DL media. The fact that it plays properly on a standalone would seem to indicate that you've made a successful burn...

Is there any reason the verify should fail at the layer break, even though the burn seems fine. And how pertinent is it for the completion of the verification process to ensure a successful burn?

I'll leave that for the author, LIGHTNING UK!, to answer...

What error are you getting?

Is it a read error or an actual 'miscompare' ?

If it's a read error and your standalone player doesn't seem to mind, you're probably ok to use that disc (although I don't recommend using ritek DL discs AT ALL!).

If it's a miscompare, that might be considered more of a problem as it's better to read nothing (error out) than it is to read incorrect data.

Here's the error message which happens right at the layer break (50%), and is there a particular brand of DL media that you would recommend?

Based on MANY posts at this and other forums (and my own personal experience), it appears that presently, Verbatim DL DVD+R are the only consistently reliable DL media...

this is VERY TRUE, stay AWAY from memorex...all junky.

I think I have another brand at home that works ok....nothing is in the same league as Verbatim....nothing.

get them on sale and stock up
