View Full Version : blue and red spots in black scene after encode

For the last 4 dvds I've done, I see arbitrary blue and red spots, especially in dark or black scene, after an encode. I tried different combinations trying to narrow down and I still see these spots so I have no idea what could be the cause. I used RB 1.08.1 and 1.09, HC 0.17, HC 0.16A, and CCE 2.70.02.01, DGDecode 1.4.5 and Nan's DGDecode 1.1.1, IDCT SSE2/MMX algorithm, with and without filter (fluxsmooth). It seems to happen more on interlaced source. The tests I've done are on DvdReMake processed source, then on original unprocessed source to make sure and the result is the same.

These intermittent blue and red spots in black scene are less frequent when I encode a segment individually rather than the whole encoding phase or batch encoding. Sometimes they appear almost in the same place, sometimes they don't if I repeat the encode again but it appears in different place.

Is anyone having this problem? I don't see these spots on the original source. :(

Well... you're getting it with several encoders -- and DVD-RB doesn't change the VIDEO created by the encoders... so that just leaves the frame server and the original. You say it's not in the original... so the only thing left is the frame server.

Are you using the version of AVISYNTH that was installed with DVD-RB or have you changed it?

I'm using the Avisynth that was installed with DVD-RB. Clicking on Help -> Display versions show v2.5.6. Is this the right version?

Rebuilder installs AVISYNTH Version 2.5.5 as the default. I have seen a couple of recent reports of problems with 2.5.6a -- could that be the version you are using?

Have you tested this on a standalone or just on a PC? You may want to burn a copy and check it.

[Edit] Corrected myself (I'd mentioned using v2.5.6 recently) -- I checked the version on my video (main testing) PC and it is v2.5.5.

Just double check with the AVS script, version() - it's v2.5.6 Build Oct 28, 2005.

I tested on a standalone last week and saw those spots. It was not irritating, but it's there so I just ignore it. But it's happening with 3 other sources, so I just have to know why it's doing that. I'm doing another encode now and will test on standalone.

I think I'm going to do a full reinstall with 2.5.5. Hopefully it will fix this problem. Can I just uninstall Avisynth 2.5.6 and reinstall Avisynth 2.5.5 rather than doing a full reinstall of DVD-RB?

Yes. If AVISYNTH is not installed when the DVD-RB installer runs, it will install it.
