I've been using Taiyo Yuden for a while now and haven't had problems until recently. I'm using 16x Taiyo Yuden non branded from Rima.com. Anyway, if I burn them at full speed, I rarely get good burns. Even if I burn at 8x, they work, but after a while they seem to get damaged somehow. They skip like crazy, or repeat chapters over and over. Its quite annoying. I backed up my daughter's care bear video and she has often come to me saying "daddy its starting over again"...so I dig out the original, and back it up all over again. I actually just keep an ISO image on my hard drive now so I can re-burn it...but that is really ridiculous. These dvd-r's aren't even a month or two old before they go bad.
I checked for scratches, and there are the usual wear and tear from kids use..but I've been backing up her kid videos for over a year and never had so many problems as I'm having now.

So the point of this message is to warn you about taiyo yuden from rima.com

** update below **
My past 400+ dvd burns have been using TYG02 at 4x on a Pioneer DVR-105. I never had a problem until this past couple of days when I discovered three bad discs. It is media related as I can visually see a slightly darker ring in the middle of the media surface on two of the discs and a slight splatter spray discoloration on the other. I checked the remaining stock of about 75 discs and they all look pristine.

Unfortunately I can not say with certainty if these were from a batch bought from Supermediastore (Taiyo Yuden 4X DVD-R DVD01X0238-100 $23.99, Media Silver Shiny in Tape Wrap 100 Pack) or a batch from Rima (1736-50 Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 4.7GB, 8X, $0.34 ea., 50-Pack $17.00). I loaded my blank disc holder with some from both batches.

I can say nearly all of the last 400 or so were from Supermediastore and never a single bad disc so the single batch of 50 I got from Rima surely could be the source of the bad three discs.

FYI - I was able to read two of them and remake a good copy. One was readable for about 30% then got fatal read errors.

*** UPDATE ***
After more researching I discovered the bad discs (3) were from a batch purchased from Supermediastore. They are from batch GG0000077. I carefully examined the remaining stock and they are fine. Given these are the only bad ones I know of, 3 of 400 is acceptable.
Rima used to be very reliable but I won't be buying any TY media from them again.

I've purchased about 200 TY DVD-R 8x from Rima in the last month or so and haven't gotten a single coaster. Still seem good to me.

@atreides93 - Did you get the disks posted out to you? It could be a real simple case of postage damage. From what i understand, postage damage is quite common because of the rough (to put it lightly) way they are handled.

Well I suppose that's possible. However, they came in a spindle that was surrounded by popcorn in a small cardbox box. Normally they are well packaged that way.. They dont' appear to be cracked or anything...though maybe they suffered excessive heat?
