I recently purchased a MV-500U media player. I ripped a movie using AutoGK 1.95 and output an .avi, .sub, and .idx files. I saved the whole set in one folder. However, I could not play back the subtiles while viewing the movie with this new toy. It does work when the subtiles file is in .srt (text based) format. Can anyone help me with how to create .srt file? Which tool is available out there? Can I convert .sub file to .srt file? Many thanks inadvance!

Isn't that the job of your parents? :D
At the top of the Subtitle sub forum there is a sticky post:
"ANN: SubRip 1.50 b3 with support for hardsubbed video and unicode"
There you can look if you want to get more information about SubRip.
I suggest to use the "search" option too.
Greetings! :)
