good news, you can now dowload all you want and be prosecuted for only 36 euro.

they dont say if it s per file or for 10000 songs/movies.

practically this is a way to go: pick up 10 movies, and download them, wait 3 weeks, and if no fine coming in your box, download another 10 movies.

if you are caught, you can get fined for 36 euro up to 360 euro(for 10 movies)....

download only if you can pay the fine!

PLEASE, DO NOT DOWNLOAD ILLEGAL FILES IF YOU LIVE OUT OF FRANCE.THIS THREAD IS A WARNING, AND IS NOT AN INCITATION TO CRIME.YOU COULD BE PROSECUTED FOR 36 EURO.BUY THE ORIGINAL IN YOU LOCAL STORE FOR 30 EURO(PLUS 9 EURO OF GAZ AND PARKING FEE NOT INCLUDED)!

Well, well, well...This is not exactly 36 but 38€ for download illegal stuff. In addition, to upload illegal stuff this is 150€ and to crack the drms stuff, you must pay 3750€...

Have a good day.

p2p is legal only with free copyright source like all the other country in the world

how can they say you have cracked a protection, if the DVD or cd does not contain any "print" of crack?

do they will really put a cop behind downlaoders/uploaders, take IP and send the ticket.how can they get IP physical adress, as IP adress is privat?.

what about if your line has been jacked?there is no law telling you have to use a WEP on your line.many lines are still publicaly open(30-50%).

38 euro is less than to pass at the red light and far less than to drive with a cell phone.
many kids will take the risk, and more they talk about this, more people will look at how to get movies for free.

and I have eared they want prohibid softwares making copies...(like clone DVD). So if it is the case, how they are going to stop people to download such sofwares?

is it the end of the P2P technology, should we come back to the time when we rod horses? and what about cell phone, or PSP?all these gadgets are faster, and movies are already downlodable.Does this law will kill hardwaer sellers like sony??
what's the point to buy a 25 gig Sony MP3player, when you dont have 5000 cd?

What's the point in questioning if or how you might be caught doing something that has been deemed to be illegal?

Technology works for both those who break the law and those who enforce it...

I would like to know, just curious to see how this story will end, if there is an end!
many people are affected in this new law even if they are on the legal side, and people could lose their job,Sony france could lose more money they think...

Wrong. Here in The Netherlands we can legally download copyrighted music and movies. Only uploading of these is prohibited.

if you download, you upload automatically.

but i still dont get it, why they sell these ipod and mp3 players with 20-30gig when downloading is prohibided.

I call this "incitation to break rules" and for what I know this is prohibided.

Sony and other companies should be blamed the first for selling hardwares like MP3, DVD burner,HD for TV,...

Because "they" must take your money somehow.. You cannot download an iPod.. :)
If you want to be ok, edit your own music as me.. :D

"if you download, you upload automatically."

Wrong.

There is no technical imperative that demands that you upload automatically, and this can be easily demonstrated in court.
Maybe YOU are using a share technology that automatically forces YOU to upload? I dont. And since I dont, I assume many others
also dont. Anyway, this is besides the point.

The download in several countries in the EU is NOT illegal, no matter the content - mostly these are smaller EU countries. Bigger ones such
as France seem to suffer from a stronger lobby. This is the clause called "personal use", and it is legal.

Only way that can be changed is if the EU is making laws that are valid for all members, which I, from a corporation point of view,
would lobby forward.

...hmmm...

I think that johnhamler1 was meaning that if you download, this means that in the meanwhile someone is uploading the same to you.. so download implies upload.

If you don't upload chances peers will block you so you won,t be able to finish your download.

People, people, that's not the point!

I was merely pointing out that downloading movies and music is not illegal where I live, I wasn't talking about the technical possibilities of this.
But now we're discussing anyway, here's my £0,02:
BREIN (which is the Dutch equivalent of RIAA) tends to only prosecute big p2p websites and releasers (i.e. people who spread new stuff on the web). Normal users who are only uploading because they're downloading (automatic side-effect of p2p) aren't likely to be caught. Costs the state too much money.

right... i was talking about the upload when you download, and there is no setting for less than 2 ko/seconds.if you want really limit your upload rate.

after a research on the net, they try to catch bands who not only distribute copyright files, but promote their files on different websites by "inviting"the public with a link posted.

we know whatever they do, people will continue to download.
Since the begining of this p2p technology, I bet the number of download has never decreased but only increased.

now that France are shouting everywhere on the national TV(france 1 and 2) that you could be prosecuted for 38 euro, more frenchies will now look at the P2P technology....considering that 38euro is not so much to have a movie directly "delivered at home".

what a band of idiots!!...I bet in a few months, that illegal downloads will increase at a rate that the musicians, and the movie industry will soon regret it.

if you ask me , what to do to stop or to limit illegal download ?
here some solutions:

decrease prices of movies,
increase content on the media
include concert tickets, when buying a cd.
ad pictures, or T shirt with the cd/DVD
include price for a concert with free travel
when buying the cd....

for me, it is clear, they try to prohibid you to download knowing more people will download and buy their blank media(cd/DVD) or hardware.
have you seen the stock of blank media they have in the shops? rolls of 50 discs when years ago it was sold by unit.

(sorry for my bad english)
