Hi all,
Could someone recommend some relative cheap software that they've had success with in converting dvds to wmv?
Thanks,

here's what you need:
- your choice of DVD decrypting programs (not sure if DVDdecrypter is still legal to download these days). free.
- DGindex (free)
- avisynth for IVTC, cropping, resizing, denoising, etc'ing (free)
- virtualdub(mod) for checking the output of avisynth (free)
- windows media encoder (free-ish - it's MS after all).
unless you really need to use windows media, don't. it's shocking. the audio sounds bad at all bitrates, and the video has poor 2-pass prediction (files are always too big) and 1-pass looks like crap pretty much all the time unless the bitrate is huge.
mpeg-4 AVC is far superior to current implementations of WMV/VC1. so go download x264, FAAC and mp4box and use that :). or use VLC player to do it all for you, as it's much easier that way.
