I really hope this is in the right forum, so here goes.

My sister just got herself a nice little HDD video camcorder and is asking me how to crop and cut videos. The videos are saved as .mod files (mpeg-2, from what I heard), and I can't seem to find a file that simply cuts out unwanted video. Everything I've seen so far seems to want to reencode the entire video, which is more work than my sister can really handle.

In essense, I'm looking for something on the lines of VirtualDub, but for .mod files. All she needs is the ability to cut out video, and save it (via Direct Stream Copy or some sort of equivalent).

Hi!

According to a review of such a camcorder at Amazon, I decided to get Adobe Premier Elements 2.0 which I am very satisfied with. The camera records in .MOD format so you need this software to convert it to MPEG. (I presume you can just as well use a more current version of Adobe Premier Elements)...

Would that allow me to clip the .mod video without having to re-encode it? I don't need to convert it to an mpeg or avi file.

I merely provided you with a source that states that Adobe Elements can convert ".MOD" files to MPEG. To find out the capabilities of Adobe Elements simply perform a Googlesearch...
