View Full Version : Container that forces chapters

Hey guys.

I've asked this before in another thread but didn't get an answer.

Is there any format (MKV, MP4, OGM) that I can force a chapter to play on default. Also when you rewind it to the start, it will go to the start of this chapter?

I ask because I have used the direct stream copy in VirtualDub to cut a segement out of a larger AVI file. However because (I believe it cuts by keyframes only) I have filler footage at either side of the segment I'm after.

Does anyone know how I can load it into a different container and force it to only show the desired segment. I don't want to have to re-encode anything.

Thanks in advance guys.

its propably doable with both mkv and mp4's systems features, tough you might be limited to specific players supporting this

in mp4 its also possible to cut at non-keyframes, called preroll iirc, but i dunno if there is a tool that can do this

Thanks Bond.

I've tried doing it using mkvMerge (or whatever it's call) but I don't think it can do it. I'll try using some MP4 tools.

You need to create an ordered chapter for that in matroska. Mkvmerge doesn't create them automatically.

Ah ok. Do you know what program can do it then?

I don't know any software that automatically creates ordered chapters when splitting files.
