View Full Version : Should I use High or Main profile?

Hi all,

I am recording some of my favorite shows and then encode them using Staxrip with CE-Highprofile & AAC 40kbps. I encode them to about 150MB/Hr. My question is will I get better quality results using the High profile or will I only see improvements if I use higher bitrate/resolution?
I tried to test myself but do not have HDTV setup. I want to know if I will see the difference in the future when I do setup an HDTV...

High Profile (meaning the use of 8x8 dct and i8x8) is ALWAYS better.

Its better, but it make the cost ?
The quality improve its not a stopper from main to high.
Your encoder and decoder timer are highers, and to the future, its harder found a high profile player than a main profile player..

not that huge inpact in speed, expecially in decoding... but the quality gain is consistent.
future is future... and who knows what players will support? 8x8 dct is already used in current divx players...
