View Full Version : Occasionally dropped frames/stuttering with dxva decoder playback

Hi all ... got a slightly strange one here - when I play a mpeg2 video back using a dxva codec (cyberlink dvd, sp, dtv, etc plus numerous other vendors) the video is mainly smooth but it goes through occasions where it seems to drop some frames and gets a little stuttery, then goes back to being fine. About 80% of the time is fine, and 20% intermittently dropping frames. It's not the video itself as I can go back and replay sections and will get the stuttering at different points in time.

System resources should be good, it's an ath64 3200 with 1gb ram, a gigabyte nf4 mb and twin 300gb seagate sata drives. Graphics card is a 128mb gigabyte 6600GT (passively cooled) card. CPU usage is low during playback (~18%) and the box does not seem to demonstrate any other performance degredation. GPU temp is fine at about 70C. I'm using the latest 84.whatever drivers from nvidia.

Any ideas? I do have about a squillion codecs installed, but it seems to exhibit the exact same behaviour with all of the dxva accelerated ones, which leads me to think the problem is more likely to be in the graphics subsystem?

I have the same problem. Hardware acceleration in PowerDVD has never worked smoothly for me.
