View Full Version : Not a single AVC player?

Hi,

I am the proud owner of 2 DXP-1000 players. They are Nero Standard certified but seriously choke on full resolution (720x480) 2MBit Nero Digital. Well, maybe it's the media but it plays fine on a PC.

That being said - it would appear that there is not a single standalone available that supports the AVC profile. Am I mistaken?

(In particular I am interested in a U.S. player but I'll rig a German one, too).

I guess you are referring to the "AVAYON" DXP-1000?

Indeed. Otherwise a very nice player. It plays DivX 6 with AC3 muxed excellently and I have a problem recognizing a quality difference on my 61 inch InFocus between that and Nero Digital but I have not found a satisfactory solution to combine multiple DivX files on a DVD without going through tedious processes of juggling bitrates. Recode2 does an excellent job at that.

Maybe a solution will emerge someday as the player is not 5.1 channel capable for NeroDigital.

Hi Max,

I must admit I found this web site myself a while ago.... It looks like "vapour-ware" to me ;)

Or maybe it's just an early announcement (like the Kiss DP-600 and the Zensonic Z500). ;)

Or maybe it's just an early announcement (like the Kiss DP-600 and the Zensonic Z500). ;)Well... that's one way of looking at it.

One of the reasons why the Z500 was late was due to Sigma not being all that keen on helping player manufacturers who did not want to use their Syabas middle-ware. Another reason was the ridiculously long and convoluted HDCP approval procedure for the HDMI output ;)

Maybe they should go with DVI output (without HDCP) like the Snazio player

Maybe they should go with DVI output (without HDCP) like the Snazio player :cool:I think you'll find there was too much pressure placed on Sigma to start issuing "reference board" designs that incorporated HDMI.....

Meaning, by the time companies such as Zensonic and KiSS managed to convince Sigma to work with their non Syabas middle-wares, it would have been too late for them to go back and use the older reference board designs, even if they had wanted too!

Sufficed to say, we wont be seeing any new Sigma reference board designs with DVI outputs. Plus I very much doubt manufactureres will be allowed to fit DVI outputs to boards fitted with Sigma's chip-sets, even if they have HDCP chip-sets.

You also have this satellite receiver which can play H.264 content:

Because it's a DVB-S2 requirement.

Unfortunately not designed for U.S., I would think (or why DVB?).

Yes, it is. It also has optical out. But I talked to the Avayon guys and they explicitly confirmed that it will not do so for Nero Digital.

If your player is with MTK chipset and you have the firmware for your player, I can modify the firmware in 1 minute to play Nero Digital with 5.1. :p

@Kurtnoise, nice features: USB, and playing also HD. If the subtitles are looking good (I don't think) is a must have. Price?

enjoy,
