The progress bar is still at zero and it's not giving me a remaining time estimate.

I wonder if the program is "gagging" on the resolution?

I've stopped it once after 80 hours with no feedback and the first couple minutes of the movie came out as smooth as ever, so maybe it has to deal with the resolution before it gives me any feedback?

Going on 160 hours with no feedback... I'm trying to open the target file in a hex editor to see how much is written and how much is blank, I don't know if that would actually work but I thought it might give me some kind of estimate. However every hex editor I use can't handle the file size or won't let me open up in read only.

Don't you think it's time to experiment by setting lower resolution (e.g. 704x480 or 720x480)?

you shouldn't go into battle half-cocked

http://www.doom9.org/guides.htm or tmpgenc's project wizard

i don't think tmpgenc can de-interlace a *.vob file (in it's current form)

if it takes 4x the length of the movie to encode, it's time upgrade or stop

4x -> 80x (160 hours encoding time? wtf)
