About a year ago I found on this site the advice to use the following programs:

dvddecrypter, dvd2one and copy2dvd.

This should be the best set of tools to rip and make nice kwality dvd copy's. Now, the development of dvddecrypter is no longer, what tool is taking it's place?

I know dvdschrink is a good program, i read a lot about dvdrebuilder but i cannot make out wich program is the one to use. The only thing I do is rip a dvd, leave al the extra shit out en burn good kwality dvd.

The advantage of ripping and burning is that when you put the dvd in your player it starts directly with the movie and in my language. You dont need to select something before its continues. For my kids this is really nice. For my kids this is really usefull. They don't have to go through all that hopeless menu's.

Please give me advice, tell me what programs you are using and help me figure out what to use.

Excuse me for my bad English, I hope everybody can read this and understand what I mean.

What is the best tool to use? Please read and follow forum rules, specifically, rule 12: do not ask what's best. Thank you and welcome to the forum.

wow! all they had to do is to write: FabDecrypter. it is free and it will do what decrypter can't do.

here is the link. http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Respectfully, there are some of us that might disagree with this advice.

I tend to be one of those who thinks DVDFab Decrypter (which is the actual name of the program you linked to) is not a viable solution. If one is using it to rip a disc with read errors due to dirt, grime, or scratches, or damage, or even a disc which has actual mastering errors, DVDFabDecrypter has a tendency to just keep ripping away, with no indication that you may be ripping "garbage data." For that reason, I try not to recommend it, unless I am communicating with an enemy.

I would suggest the PGCEdit Plug-In referenced above, for those who do not like to get too involved in the learning curve and the "inner workings" associated with PGCEdit and VobBlanker.

Or, as an alternative, I would also recommend a commercial program which is regularly updated, such as Slysoft's various products, for those who believe in paying a small amount for high quality programming.

I realize that opinions on this are likely to vary quite a bit, but there may have been reasons that other members were not jumping in to simply suggest DVDFabDecrypter as the solution to his problems. Many people here have different goals, and different levels of expertise, and different expectations (And this, of course, is just one of the reasons for the rule which asks users not to ask "what is the 'best'?")

Just my thoughts, and no disrespect intended.

Take care,

-Bruce

I will agree that the program DVDFab Decrypter is free.

dvdshrink works for me

As far as what's 'replacing' DVDDecrypter goes, I'm not sure anything is as good just yet. I still use DVDDecrypter for 99% of my backups. Any newer disk that may give me problems I just run through DVDFab Decrypter instead and have never had any problems.

Now that I've added my 2 cents on decrypting, I will move on to the next step : 'shrinking' the DVD (assuming you are preparing a DVD9 to fit on a DVD5).
If you are unfamiliar with the differences between an encoder and a transcoder you may benefit from some study on thier differences. Personnaly I use an encoder (mostly HC or Procoder 2.0) for any project that needs to be compressed to less than 85-90%, otherwise I use a transcoder (DVDShrink or Nero Recode).

If you want to use a transcoder there are a slew of choices out there. DVDShrink seems to be a crowd favorite and I like it alot myself, but I typically use Nero Recode becaus it still benefits from updates. The only way to know what software works best for you is to try some different programs until you find one you are really comfortable and happy with.

If you want to use an encoder, be prepared for your backups to take significantly longer, but in most cases you will likely find the resulting video to be of higher quality. There are less options to backup a DVD this way, but you barely need other options when there's DVD Rebuilder.
