Check out that sky... mcnr_simple2 has been pretty effective, same with degrainmedian, but I can't give it the full "treatment" with 1080i material, just too much of a CPU killer :D

Short Mpeg2 clip (45MB) http://rapidshare.de/files/14888260/c-clip.m2v.html

TIA.

ye gods!

that's 16mm for you.

if you want something quick (ish), try combine removedirt with fft3dfilter set to kalman filter (bt=0), and a vey low sigma (1-1.5).

this will probably be more effective if you're taking it down to SD size first.

What's the frame after the one you posted like? It seems that's temporal noise( fixed with fluxsmootht). If not try msmooth( with low settings)

Will try both. Thanks.

this looked okay on the clip you posted. not perfect, but there's only noise visible on stuff like the edges of trees whizzing past.

removegrain().removedirt()
lanczosresize(720,576)
fft3dfilter(bw=16,bh=16,ow=8,oh=8,bt=0,sigma=1.3,plane=4)

caution: it's dog slow.

I'll try it out, Mug Funky. Danke. There's been a big push to up-res older movies to 1080i. Anything over 15-20 yrs old just looks bad when they attempt to resize it. I suspect this is the quality we'll get to look forward to when it all goes HD. :(
