View Full Version : Frame rate drifts in certain h264 videos

I encoded some Gundam Seed episodes into h264 using mencoder and am running into an odd problem. The frame rate shows in ffdshow as 29.976 (normal) but when playing in MPC or TCMP the frame rate seems to drift around from 29.98 up to about 30.08. The audio/video sync will eventually drift off if using the CoreAVC alpha .4, but in FFDShow it seems to work fine despite the odd frame rates. When encoding mencoder showed it to be 30fps content and encoded it as such... so I'm not sure what could have happened. This is affecting all Gundam Seed episodes I encoded, but does not do this in any other items encoded into h264.
hi Zorrander,
i will move this to the MPEG-4 AVC forum, where hopefully one of the gurus there can help you out.
good luck

Isn't Gundam seed vfr? Did u actually encode to vfr? Maybe thats the reason framerate differs on playback in MPC.

I'm not sure what vfr is. I've since quit using Mencoder and started using Staxrip with the x264 cli going into MKV files. I'll try again some day, until then I'll watch them with FFDshow doing the decoding. :)
edit - bond - I'll try it when I get home

Your process didn't change the frame rate floating. I've since learned vfr is variable frame rate. I thought this only had to do with things changing from 24 to 30 fps and not going higher than 30? Regardless of that.. decoding with ffdshow is working fine so I'm just going to stick with that. Thanks anyway. :)
