My sister in law is using DVD decrypter to burn some dvds and has no problem for DVDs she bought from Costco. But for DVDs she bought from CompUSA, - it says its blank at first but as soon as it starts to write to the disk (from a .iso file), it gives an error message - indicating "I/O Error" and says it is "Write Protected". I'm confused why it would say "Write Protected" when it is a brand new DVD+R 8x.

Any ideas?

Is hers capable of burning at least 4X, and on +R?

Yes, the other DVD+Rs that work for her are also DVD+R and 8x..

Any ideas?
The burner may not recognize the blank Media ID, in that case the burner may need a firmware update. I would not want to use CompUSA blanks (cheap, poor quality). There are quality blanks with very good price on sale these days and stay with the brands that work well with the burner.

That's a good suggestion.. thanks voo_doo99! I'll go and tell my sis-in-law. I really had no idea there was much difference between the different DVD+Rs....i buy whatever is cheapest usually.. I guess I should look out for better brands.
