youŽll need: virtualdubmod and Belight
1- set up 2 folders on your desktop(avi1 and avi2) and put the respective avi's on each one
2- use virtual dub mod to demux the ac3 from each of the avi's to wav and to demux the video, and save the wav and video of each one on respective folder
3- now you have 2 folders, each one with the original avi and the demuxed video and the wav.
4- use belight to amplify/convert to ac3 each one of the wav's, make sure same bitrate is used
5- delete the original avis to avoid confusion.
6- mux the video and the "amplified ac3" from folder one using virtualdub or avimuxgui and save , do the same for folder 2
combine the 2 avis using virtualdubmod, load avi1 and select option"append video" and load avi 2, finnally save using "direct stream copy"
it will take less than 20 minutes to do it all.

Hi, I have a similar question, thought I'd post it here, I have 26 divx files each of about 50 MB each, which I'd like to join into one large file. The sound is just stereo, nothing fancy there. What is my best (and quickest) option for joining this number of files? Do I have to demux the sound and video from each and every file?
Thanks for your help.

Hi!I have 26 divx files each of about 50 MB each, which I'd like to join into one large file. Are they all pieces of the same original source file?

Yes they are, it's a DVD I got for my kids in fact, which I wanted to back up in DivX format. The 26 files are all 5 minute cartoons, taken off the same DVD.

I'm sorry, but you've got me confused. Perhaps you can clarify - You state that you already have 26 separate DivX-compressed .AVIs that you've created from 26 separate cartoons contained on a DVD.
If this is correct, what will you accomplish by joining (or trying to join) them?

My problem was that when I attempt to play them in DivX Player for example I can't queue them up to play one after the other, each 5 minute one has to be launched separately. (Admittedly this may be due to my failings rather than the software, but there you go). I thought if I were to join them then this would remove that problem. Perhaps there is a better solution.....?

Perhaps there is a better solution.....?1) You should be able to create a playlist in Windows Media Player
or
2) Try "Hobbitt's DVD Launcher" - and don't be misled by the name, as it can be used directly from your hard drive as well as from CDs and DVDs (ONLY on your computer).
I'm suggesting an alternate solution because more often than not, you'll find the .AVIs you've created are NOT identical regarding video and/or audio - making successful joining well nigh impossible...

Thanks, I'll give that a shot then. I thought Media Player couldn't play DivX files, obviously I was wrong. Thanks!

Returning to this problem, I eventually bought a DivX compatible player to play my DivX DVDs on. This cartoon DVD as I said has 26 files, each 5 minutes long. But again I have the problem that the DVD player only launches one 5 minute film at a time. A bit problematic when there are 26 of them. They are named VTS_01_0, VTS_02_0 etc. so I tried renaming the second one VTS_01_1, but that didn't work. Playing them on the PC is fine, but I really need to find some solution to linking them on a DVD for playback on the TV.

Perhaps your standalone player has the ability to open a playlist which you can create and burn along with the files.

I don't think so, it's a very basic player which I bought for the only reason that my better and more advanced DVD player can't play DivX films. It was bought just before they became widespread. When I convert a film with several vob files they are obviously linked and it makes one DIvX file from them, but these were all individual vob files, separately numbered, and DivX Converter has accordingly kept them separate.

I'm sure the DVD menu has a choice to "Play all"...

True, I could do that, but the original idea was to be able to get 3 or 4 films onto the one DVD, which is why I started encoding into DivX. Looks like this has its limitations too.

You originally stated that you have ONE DVD with 26 5 minute cartoons on it. You are now talking about "3 or 4 films onto the one DVD" - an entirely different situation, since your standalone DivX-capable DVD player undoubtedly has a built-in (basic, at least) menu capability...

To clarify, the idea was to take the 26 separate cartoons (otherwise one DVD) and convert them to DivX, in order to be able to put them onto a separate disc with another 2/3 films/cartoons, i.e. taking 4 original DVDs and putting them onto one DivX encoded DVD. My problem arose when one of the original DVDs after encoding gave me 26 separate files that I could not join, thus making it useless on the DivX DVD.
As it appears my only option is just to back this DVD up as a separate DVD, without compressing to DivX format (PLan B), what I would prefer is to be able to put it onto a disc with several other films.
The menu capability on the standlone player allows shows the folder in which the encoded files are placed, but lists them all separately and only launches them separately. That, is the problem, perhaps one that I cannot solve.

only launches them separatelyI believe you'll find that the player will play the .AVIs in consecutive order, automatically...

... That, is the problem, perhaps one that I cannot solve.
This is ignoring completely my previous post and the suggestion I have made:
...The naming convention may be tricky, when I split my files with VDubMod the naming is: Collinwood.00.avi, Collinwood.01.avi and so on and it plays in a row on my SAP (standalone player) without problem.
I will erase my previous posts, so anything offensive will be removed.
I believe you'll find that the player will play the .AVIs in consecutive order, automatically...
I believe you are right and hope you'll get better understanding than me. Bye.

The answer was staring me in the face. Upon converting there is an option to make one file out of several assuming that the frame rate is the same. As the files were taken from the same DVD, this is obviously the way to do it! Success
