View Full Version : Changing video type in MP4Box

Hi everybody, doesn't anybody know how to change/set video type in MP4 container using MP4Box? I use XVID video and the type is automatically changed to MP4V. But while the original AVI is displayed correctly using ffdshow, when muxed into container with changed video type, the output is in certain places very noticeably corrupted - smeared. So, maybe direct specification of video type can help me... Thanks a lot!

where did you get mp4box from?

Well, I'm not sure. I tried several sources because some versions for strange reason could not load/parse AAC files made by BeSweet. It could be from GPAC or RareWarez. But the version reported is: MP4Box - GPAC version 0.4.1-DEV.

rarewares is outdated, use the one from here:

Thanks for the link - I'll experiment with that version immediatelly. But the question remains: Is there a switch that could be used to change the video type so that ffdshow will (maybe) display XviD video with MPEG quantization correctly?

no, there is no choice to change the video type, also the video type is not causing your error

Thanks for clear answer concerning MP4box. But it's really strange - AVI is decoded with no problems (input is in ffdshow of type XviD). Once the video is in MP4 container and its type is changed to MP4V, ffdshow does not display correctly (occasionally) video encoded in latest XviD build using MPEG quantization. Strangely enough, H.263 in XviD works with no problems (but the image is not so sharp). I think that MP4V video is by ffdshow decoded as if it was created by DivX4 (as its codecs settings show) and smearing sometime occurs.

But you are right that the error is not caused by video type. I changed it to MP4V using FourCC changer and still it displayed OK. But once in MP4, neither Haali splitter nor the MPC build-in splitter can get the video right. I'm lost.

open the ffdshow options, go to "misc", go to idct and change "auto" to "xvid mmx" and check if this fixes the problems

That's IT! Thank you so much! The smears are gone, the image is clear once again. You made me a happy man despite my nick. :-) I'll just drop here one more small question: The VobSub-style subtitles are still not supported by MP4box, are they? Only Nero so far can do that... Thanks once again for setting me on the right track.
