After going through a very lengthy process of making some 20 edits to an a DVD where I am reinserting deleted material along with custom transitions, I encountered the problem that my telecine was messed up so that near the transition points I would get a field order reversal.
To correct this problem, I ran pulldown.exe on the transitions to get rid of the BFF field orders. Then, I ran DGPullDown on them to get TFF field ordering to match the rest of the film. Next, I join all the parts together again and then run DGPulldown on the entire re-edited film to take care of the places where field ordering gets messed up thanks to my editing.
The final results looks perfect, but unfortunately the Audio is now out of sync after the first transition that I added. I was warned that this kind of solution might cause a sync problem, but I had to try it because the prospect of redoing all my edits sounded awful.
So my questions are:
Is it possible to repair the audio/video sync?
If not, then how do I go about cutting my VOB files so as to preserve the telecine?
My current theory is that if I needed to redo the edit, that I would need to run DGIndex on each unedited source clip and then parse the D2V to examine the telecine states of each frame and make cuts in Womble based upon the states of the frames so as to not piece together field order swapping pieces. One complication here is that the parsed file references actual frames while Womble displays frames numbers as though telecine has been performed so that I would need to make some calculations for each edit place and hope for accuracy.
Does this approach sound correct?
Is there an easier way to do this?
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice!
Regards,
John
