Hey all, I have a Philips DVP642/37 DVD player and it has been playing my DivX movies fine for a while except till recently when I try to play them it looks a pixely and off colour etc. I have updated to the newest firmware (1009 I believe) and it still doesn’t fix the problem. I downloaded MPEG4 Modifier and have opened some of the files that I could play and couldn’t. The player will basically play anything with XviD0037 encoding or lower, it won’t properly display XviD0041 or 47. My question is what is the easiest way to change the encoding from XviD00** back to XviD0037. Or any ideas how to solve this mess thanks.

Or any ideas how to solve this mess thanks. If you've been getting a lot of use from this player, you might consider running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on it. Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US...

I agree with the previous poster, do clean the lens with a major brand cleaner.
I would like to add that when this model has difficulty rendering some xvid encodes, pressing the system menu button twice corrects the problem to some extent. The picture will not neccessarily be the best quality, but it will be viewable as opposed to the pixelated rainbow mess that is displayed initially.

thanks guys I'll try the lens cleaner. Although when I hit the system menu button it seems to correct the problem. thanks again!
