I'm curious as to why you didn't encode them in avi if you were gonna burn them to DVD. I think you downloaded this content and are having downloaders remorse.

There's nothing wrong in downloading non-copyrighted material xD
And to the topic: use avc2avi for h264 or mp4box for plain mpeg4, set fps as source.
But if your source video is vfr, you're in trouble.

why on earth you wanna put avc in avi?
it wont play on his Standalone DivX player. also AVC in AVI is a BAD idea ( :search: )
You need to reconvert the MP4 to DivX or Xvid + mp3 AVI.

first of all there are dvd players that handle mp4, so it might be your player already handles your files
secondly you dont need to reencode the video and audio in mp4 when the video is mpeg-4 asp and the audio is mp3
in that case simply convert the mp4 to avi with yamb
if you have a mpeg-4 avc video and aac audio in the mp4 you need to reencode

Nothing, its just not the right container and retarding the encoding development, no varible frame rate +++ more overhead etc etc.... anyway, why use avi when the mp4 editing tool is already available now in beta and very very soon a stable version....finally we have a virtualdub like program for mp4
Just look for YAMB 1.5 in this forum, this category
Use extract to extract the mp4 to raw
and again use MeGUI to mux in into avi, you need mencoder.exe for this
search for "meGUI" in this forum
