View Full Version : RealAnime 4 - unsuported source (.avi)

RealAnime looks just the job for what I want to do - produce short compact video clips with the minimum of effort in understanding the nitty-gritty of video!
I've downloaded and installed the main executable and 'Power Pack', but when I try to process an avi file I get the message 'Analysis failed: unsupported source (.avi).' I'd be gratefull for any ideas as what the problem might be (N.B.: checking the list of tools installed, I notice that AviSynth is not in the list - although it was installed).
(My machine is a Sempron 3000+ with 1Gig of Ram. O.K. not a Pentium 4, but probably fast enough)

In RealAnime, right click on your source and press Info. Get the text and post it here, but be sure to remove the filenames.

Thanks for the quick reply, Sirber! Here is the info from right-clicking on the file in RealAnime (I've removed the filenames, replacing them with a * - but why?)

AC3... This is fixed in dev version. Will work in next release. In the meantime, you can merge it in MKV and add the MKV in RealAnime, then it will work.
note: "unsupported source" has no link with your hardware :)

Again, thanks for the quick reply, Sirber!
I'm not sure what you mean by 'merge it in MKV' - I'll have to do a search.
Also, what's the issue with hardware other than Pentium 4?

O.K. - I've found mkvmerge and stuffed the avi file through it, creating a mkv file almost the same size as the avi. I then passed this mkv file to RealAnime. It all started looking good, but finished up with an error 'Encoder error #-1 (x264)', with no file output. This seems to be a permissions problem, as running as an admin it runs to completion. (I can't see why it should be a problem, as I set the RealAnime directory to full access for users.) When the run is completed, even though I set the Container to 'MPEG-4(.mp4)' the output is a mkv file!

Open RealAnime.log if it exists, in "C:\Program files\RealAnime 4\"
and look why it fails.
if it doesn't exists, I will need your file (MKV or AVI).

A log 'x264_2pass.log' gets created in RealAnime 4\output (but RealAnime did 3 passes!). The log is full of stuff like (81Ks worth!):

It doesn't mean anything to me!
The original avi file is 39.46 Meg and after passing through 'Matroska GUI' it's just 20 bytes smaller. After this file is passed through RealAnime it comes down to 1.78 Meg (still matroska though - even though I asked for mp4)
BTW, I've had a look on Wikipedia about matroska files (which are new to me) and whilst it may be the future, it's not much good if I want others to play files on a standard Windows Media Player.
