View Full Version : writing stat file to a different directory for 2pass?

I have 2 accounts on my computer at work -- 1 is an admin account, but they prefer if we use the regular user account so spyware/viruses won't be able to install themselves, we won't accidentally screw up system files, etc. So I was able to install the Xvid codec -- it works fine on my user account for playback or single pass encoding, but it can't do 2pass encoding becuz it can't write the stat file to the root C: directory. Is there any way to configure it to write to a different folder? I don't want to have to log in to my admin account every time I want to encode something.

In the codec options you can choose the directory and the name of the .pass file, it's in the "encoding type" section.

You should be able to put a stats-file into c:\<users and settings>\<your username>\.....

That's more or less a windows-restriction which even makes sense; users shoudn't be allowed to write into c:\ (if that's your system root) as all other directories by default get the restrictions/rights from that directory. Except for the user's home-directories (in windows-case: the profile-directories) of course.

Yeah it was in the encoding type section -- I had it set to single pass, so the option wasn't there. I checked all the options before I posted, but I couldn't find it. It wasn't until I selected 1st pass encoding that I found the option I needed. I changed it and it works fine now. Thanx!:D
