View Full Version : Missing subpictures

Hi,
I tried The Big 3 method using ReAuthorist and also the one using Scenaid but both give me the same problem (also after retrying from zero several times).
Every time I import the generated script in Scenarist (3.0) I get messages like:
Warning "C:\dvds\VTS01\SUBS\VTS_01_VSUB_P1A1-01\VTS_01_VSUB_P1A1-01-Francais_0216_v001_c014.bmp (0 2 205 26) (1159 1159)" does not exist. Imported as place holder.
And then sometimes I can start building it, but I'll get an error Scenarist cannot find some file (which is missing indeed) or I can't start building because theres a placeholder somewhere.
I know I can remove the subpicture so I can continue building the dvd, but I don't want subtitles with missing words or something like that. The log window is full with those messages (in all available subtitle languages), so I have a lot of missing subpictures which would give me a lot of incorrect subtitles.
My question is: is it normal that every time I try to encode this disc from zero (tried like 6 times already now) I get the same missing subpictures problem ? Could it be some kind of protection maybe, and the missing subpictures are just dummy files (empty subpictures maybe?).
If that's not the case, what could I do to get this disc encoded to DVD5 with success and no missing things in the subtitles ?
Thanks in advance!

The incorrect version of vsrip/vsconv is being used which causes an incorrect naming structure in the sst. Copy the vsrip/vsconv from the scenaid directory into the dif4u directory.

I will try that and let you know how it turns out.

I checked the versions and the ones from Scenaid are the same as the ones from DIF4u
vsconv: 1.2.5.0
vsrip: 1.2.0.0
I'l try it anyway maybe the ones from DIF4U got corrupted somehow.

If problems persist, this may help

The SST fixer looks exactly what I need.
Thanks!

Ok I've tried copying the vsrip/vsconv from the Scenaid directory into DIF4u directory and also used the SST Fixer after DIF4U before starting ReAuthorist.
Now I still get an error when building the dvd in Scenarist:
Error Cannot open subpicture file (C:\dvds\terms Cache\Encoded Files\VTS_01_VSUB_P1A1-12-Hunga_1.sp)
Error dvd_mux : DoMux Multiplexing Error
Error Terminated Multiplexing (terms-VTS_01_PGC_01_t.vob).
Error Can't open read stream file. Please check the permission.
Error Multiplex is failed.
Error Multiplexing failed, Track "VTS_01_PGC_01"
Error MuxFromDB:MuxVTS failed
Error Multiplex failed
Error DVD Video files could not be created
This file is missing indeed (again).
When I imported the script in Scenarist I got these warnings for every subtitle language:
Warning The subpicture (stream 18 in Video Track "VTS_01_PGC_01") is across scene break at 00:41:22;06. The subpicture will not display when jumping into the scene. Please adjust the subpicture start time or scene start time.
Warning The subpicture (stream 18 in Video Track "VTS_01_PGC_01") is across scene break at 00:49:09;01. The subpicture will not display when jumping into the scene. Please adjust the subpicture start time or scene start time.
Warning The subpicture (stream 18 in Video Track "VTS_01_PGC_01") is across scene break at 00:59:30;10. The subpicture will not display when jumping into the scene. Please adjust the subpicture start time or scene start time.
Warning The subpicture (stream 18 in Video Track "VTS_01_PGC_01") is across scene break at 01:11:24;01. The subpicture will not display when jumping into the scene. Please adjust the subpicture start time or scene start time.
But since these are just warnings I should be able to built it right?
Any other ideas that I could give a try on this disc ?

Boundary errors on a PAL movie - that is extremely unusual - if not impossible with scenaid. Very occasionaly scenarist plays silly buggers with us. First alter the duration and/or start time of the warning subs (just in case they are causing a problem) to ensure that none of the subs cross a scene boundary. Next lets deal with this 'strange' sub that won't be created. One possibility is that there is something unique about that timecode  so i suggest moving the sub by a few frames backwards (TBH the sub showing a few frames early will make no difference). If this still won't compile then for some reason the sub can't be generated but obviously no error is being thrown for scenarist to catch (the usual one being a 1440 line error). In this case i see no alternative except to remove that particular sub (Would the loss of one sub be so critical??)
Finally the only other option is to import the scp into muxman instead and let muxman have a go (as i suggest in your other thread)

I never did any advanced editing in Scenarist like setting timings for subs, so I have to do some research first for that.
I'll give it a try in muxman first and otherwise I'll just try and see if removing the hungarian sub solves the problems, but I'm not sure if it's this specific language that's causing problems. At the time of creating this topic it was the french subtitle which had a missing subpicture.
Edit: is it also possible to use the SST fixer tool when using Scenaid to author the files ? I only tried it with ReAuthorist (for which it was developped).

Edit: is it also possible to use the SST fixer tool when using Scenaid to author the files ?ermmm ... no ... there is no need. all the tool does is remove the display co-ordinates from the .sst files so that RA accepts them ... it wont 'fix' anything as far as scenaid is concerned.
I never did any advanced editing in Scenarist like setting timings for subs, so I have to do some research first for that.i can email you a .pdf of a quide i wrote (a long time ago ;) ) that has some explanations about how to modify subtitles/time codes etc if you like ... just pm me your email address.
cheers
