View Full Version : VirtualDubMod + multiple instances = crash ?

Read the faq, searched the forums and the official tracker, so pleeease don't kill me if it's been asked / answered before, ok? :o
Using v1.5.10 I can open multiple vdm instances just fine, then open just 1 video / avs in one of the vdm windows and moving or resizing that window or one of the others and they close unexpectedly. No warnings either.
Basically all I wanted was to use vdm to preview avs filters, tried to do this with latest VirtualDub instead and it worked fine.
Also, iirc, vd now supports YV12 input now as well without conversion (when setting 'fast recompress'. Is that correct?
If so, is there any reason NOT to use VirtualDub over VDM?

If so, is there any reason NOT to use VirtualDub over VDM? There are many things that VirtualDubMod can do that vanilla VirtualDub cannot. If those are important to my application, I would use VirtualDubMod.
It's like asking "Which is best?" :)

Hi!
For one thing, VirtualDub will not accept MPEG files directly. for input. For another, VirtualDub will not allow you to readily swap in different or multiple audiostreams ...

:thanks: you both.
Since I was forced to use vDM (like that name somehow) all those things taken for granted in VDM vanished like May snow... :p
The MPEG-1 / 2 part wasn't a problem anymore, UNTIL I wanted to mux a seperated MPEG-2 + an AC-3 to mkv
(a full 6 hours after considering switching to vDM again...).
Verily, that was a short adventure. Keeping both then.
That said, are there other quick previewers available you'd recommend checking out?
Took only a look at AVSGenie so far, rather intimidating number of options and loaded slow on my poor relic,
plus I found that using at least 4 preview windows at the same time was rather usefull.
Anything that can do so, or is that just a spoiled wish? ;)

I have used both VDMod & VD-MPEG2 in many multi frameserves either being frameserved from Avisynth or the reverse with the final frameserver chains feeding my NLE Magix's EP-10 Pro Plus all at the same time. The record has been over 80, just seeing if we could pull it off.

It's good to hear that it isn't an error due to VDM itself.
Managed to get an error report after a few tries, had these running at the time :
AuxSetup.exe
corona.dll
ogg.dll
SciLexer.dll
Scintilla.DLL
vdicmdrv.dll
vdremote.dll
vdsvrlnk.dll
VirtualDubMod.exe
vorbis.dll
kernel32.dll
I'd assume it not required to have the VDM frameserving components (AuxSetup.exe, vdicmdrv.dll, vdremote.dll, vdsvrlnk.dll) running when actually using AviSynth for that, is that correct?
But if so, can they actually be the cause of crashing VDM?
The full VDM error report listed some 77 modules, but was unable to find the log anywhere.
Event viewer wasn't much help here, as I'm pretty sure I noticed the crash itself...
