Well, we finally have get here: hardware acceleration of H.264 !!! :)

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=21594

"737-21594: How to Enable Hardware Acceleration of H.264

The information in this article applies to the following configuration(s):
* H.264 Hardware Acceleration
* Radeon X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900 series
* Windows XP/2000

To enable hardware acceleration of H.264 content on X1000 series products, both an optimized H.264 driver and Cyberlink decoder are required. The H.264 optimized driver is included within Catalyst Control Center. The Cyberlink decoder supports DirectShow compatible media players (Windows Media Player, Zoom Player etc). This gives a user the choice to use their favourite media player for H.264 playback. The decoder package also includes an Avivo Windows Media Player 10 skin.

What's required to get H.264?
1. Download and install Catalyst 5.13 or later
2. Download and install the Cyberlink H.264 hardware accelerated decoder.

(The demo is limited to a trial run of 30 days)
3. Play your favourite H.264 content, hardware accelerated."

Unfortunately, you must have a 3rd-party customized decoder, which isn't free :( And I think, ATI requirement isn't public, so the free decoders, like ffdshow, doesn't know how to use it. What a shame. But who knows what future will bring ... :)

The question is, when nVidia will ship its driver. I have a Geforce 6600 GT :(
:)
