HI:

I'm using a Lite ON DVD burner. Whenever I burn a movie DVD, it freezes on playback. Usually it does this during the last 10-15 minutes of the movie. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Any and all help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Hi!it freezes on playback. Usually it does this during the last 10-15 minutes of the movie.Most often, this is a clear indication of poor quality media. Try using good/high quality media such as T-Y, Verbatim, Maxell, etc. - and burn at 4X...

Does it freeze on playback on all DVD players and drives or just the drive in your laptop?

@HardwareGeek

Hi!Does it freeze on playback on all DVD players and drives or just the drive in your laptop?

Am I missing something (other than, perhaps, a few screws) - I see nothing in the post by "Daytona" referring to a laptop...

My mistake. All apologies.

thanks for your opinions guys, I guess those 200 DVDs for 30 bucks at Best Buy weren't that good a deal after all :). Will pick up some Maxells and try those.

I've heard good things about Verbatim, too.

I guess those 200 DVDs for 30 bucks at Best Buy weren't that good a deal after allThey may be perfectly usable for successful burns, if burned at a lower speed (e.g. 4X)...

Yeah, there can be a huge difference just from burn speed and media type/brand. I still have my first burner that I bought a couple years ago, a LiteOn 8X burner. The first media I tried turned out to be Ritek G04's, and at 4X the burns were pretty bad, about half of them wouldn't play back on my PC without freezing. Lowering the speed to 2X solved that problem, though the burns still were horrible according to K-Probe.

I heard/read good things about ricohjpnr01's, so I tracked down a big spool of them and it was night and day. At 4X, the burns were as close to perfect as you are ever going to get, according to the current K-Probe of the time, and they always played back perfectly in any PC or standalone I tried them in:

Now compare that to the scan I did of the G04's burned at 2X on the exact same burner a couple weeks prior (the disc played through without freezing, God only knows how):
