View Full Version : Changing Subtitle Order

I ripped a Korean DVD-5 to my hdd. It has 3 subtitle tracks; 2 Chinese and 1 English.
The Chinese tracks are 1 and 2, while the English track is 3. The subs are forced to auto-display the Chinese track 1.
How can I change this, so that the forced-display sub track is the English track?

Easy: DVDSubEdit: load your vob, select the streamID for the chinese track, and change all the start commands to "Normal start" (there's a pull down to do it to the current one, then you "apply to all" in the Edit menu). Then you go to the English track, and change all the normal starts to forced start commands...
That's assuming that the chinese track is authored with forced start commands (normally the case for forced subpics)...

I loaded the first vob of the movie into DVDSubEdit.
I then followed your instructions. When I previewed the dvd again, the Chinese subs were still auto-displayed.

EpheMeroN, maybe we're not talking about the same thing. I'm talking about forced subtitles (i.e., subtitles that are shown as soon as the subtitle track is selected, even if the subtitles are not "on").
Maybe what's happening for you is that your subtitles are not forced, but simply that the wrong stream is selected by the DVD navigation. That's easy to change, but DVDSubEdit can't help you with that...
Questions:
- Do the chinese subs display *even if the subtitles are off* (for example in PowerDVD)?
- In DVDSubEdit, did you see if they had a "Forced start" command, or a "Normal start" command?
Now to make sure the english subs are shown instead of the chinese, you'll have to put a SetSTN command (probably at the top of the main movie PGC), to set the subtitle stream to English, and "off". You can do that easily with PgcEdit.

I only use Media Player Classic ...and when I click on "Play" from the dvd menu, the Chinese subs are auto-displayed / selected.

They had a "Normal start" listed in DVDSubEdit.

Ah! So your problem is simpler: They're not forced, it's just that they're the ones that are selected by the navigation. All you need to do is go in PgcEdit and insert a SetSTN command at the top of your movie PGC to select the english subs...

Here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=45440) is a nice guide by 2COOL on how to do it... (Use v2 of the guide, with PgcEdit instead of IfoEdit)

Thank you! After reading the guide 2-3 times, I tried it out, and it worked flawlessly the first time around.
:thanks:

Good job! DVDSubEdit wasn't needed after all! :)
