Broken DVP-642

A while back something incredibly stupid happened to me. I was flashing my dvp-642 with new firmware and i accidentally hit the power button (I have no idea how) and it shut off in the middle, never to turn back on again. I'm assuming that there is no way to salvage the unit (I even called philips, and the customer service was unbelieveably bad) but im hoping that there might be SOMETHING i can do with the unit or the parts, or anything. If anyone has any suggestions on what i can do with this thing i would be much obliged.

send it in for service, not the first time it's happened for customers I guess..

they wanted to charge me $50 just for me to talk to someone about whether or not it would be possible to fix it. Either way i already bought a new dvd player, but i would still like to see what i can do with that one. Philips service is basically out of the question.
