Had a badly scratched dvd.

Used dvd decrypter which took over eight hours with over 15,000 errors to decrypt. created and ISO file.

The ISO file is about 7.5GB.

DVD shrink gets a "programming error" about 75% into the shrink processing (now after 40 minutes).

What else can I do?

Is there any other software that can shrink the ISO file, preferably freeware?

Thanks in advance,
Curiously
Robert

As I asked in your other thread (presumably about a different scratched DVD), have you as yet determined if it's acceptably viewable? You can use "VLC" player to view the .ISO image file (no "mounting needed).

If it's acceptable and the backup is of importance to you, assuming your burner has DL capability, I'd suggest you buy Verbatim DL DVD+R media and try burning the .ISO image directly, with no compression needed...

I though about burning onto a DL disc. I will download the VLC player and check out the file... It is a rainy Sunday here, so staying in and watching the ISO file will be a good thing. Will advise and if need be purchase a DL disc tomorrow.

Thank you for your input It has been helpful. I also downloaded the freeware of ISO buster but cannot make heads nor tails of what it is supposed to do other then open the ISO file. However, watching and possibly burning the file to a DL may be the best and only solution for this corrupted file, short of buying a new DVD of the movie! Robert

I downloaded a VLC player and the movie is watchable. That is scanning the movie and checking out the chapters, etc.

Today is a rainy Sunday, so I will watch the entire 'film' on that VLC player in full screen mode on my computer.

I will tomorrow purchase a DL disc and then try to burn the ISO file to a DL. Possibly this file is not for some unexplainable reason compatible with DVD Shrink.

I had shrunk other files from other DVD's in the meantime so DVD Shrink is working well at the moment.

Thanks to you all for your great help!

Robert
