Sup All, I am a Brand New Newbie. I am looking into buying a DVD Burner. I know you can rip DVD's, But can you make a 1:1 copy? This would include all the menus, x-tras, etc. Kinda like a Clone CD for CD-R? If anyone has ever made a good 1:1 dvd copy, please contact me or send me an faq or something! Thx for your help

I wouldn't look to do a 1:1 copy yet. Current media will only hold up to 4.7GB. I believe that DVD movies are in the 7-8 GB range. It's probably best to just rip the movie with SmartRipper. Does anyone if there will be media supporting a larger capacity?

Maybe someone else has a better answer - just trying to help.

Hey,thx for your input, I think you are right. But it would be really sweet if you could make a 1:1 copies. Anyone know when they are gonna start making bigger DVD-Rs?

you also have to bear in mind that dvd-r's, at least as they stand now, will play in very few standalone dvd players

That really blows then, so it's pretty much hopeless for a 1:1 DVD copy eh? If they came out with a double layer dvd-r, would it be possible? Anyone's input is welcome
thx

i would imagine sometime in the not too distant future it will be possible, but it may well be a royal pain in the ass
the real use i can see the dvd-r's being put to its putting multiple divx'ed movies onto...all of kevin smith's films without changing disc..mmmm

Hi,

Very new to this but learning......

Copied a DVD onto a DVD-R which came out as good video quality as DVD itself, Audio was only dolby pro logic though.

However, not manage to get bitrate right yet because still shots were fantastic quality but movement turn it into a blocky distorted picture.

Any ideas what is causing this other than the bitrate?

How do i solve this?

Help!

Wouldn't you need to DeCSS(decrypt) the DVD source before making a copy? I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that consumer DVDR/RWs do not write in a header as present in commercial DVDs. Does someone know for a fact about this?

This is true Dragon. There is no way to make a 1:1 copy of a CSS/Macrovision encrypted disk. You HAVE to decprypt it first. They used a combination of media & burner to prevent this from happening.

thanks for clearing that up kdiddy. This is another way the movie industry rips us off. Even if we spend large sums of money to get a DVD-R, we can't produce "real" DVDs with encryption... just my 2 cents

so then the general consensus is to wait for now on the 1 to 1 dvd copiying?

If you only want the movie and not all the extras, there is a thread under DVD/Mini DVD by COMANDERXL i believe that shows a way that works, and it DOES. sounds complicated at first but once youve done it a few times, is quite easy and results are really good.
