View Full Version : Distorted vertical photos in Scenarist

Hi,
Is there a way or a program to resize at the same time a lot of vertical pictures?
I imported a lot of them in scenarist because I wanted to include them in one of my dvds.
The ones that have Width: 682 and Height: 1024, that's to say, the vertical ones, are distorted. I've already made all the navigation work and would like to find a way to solve the problem without redoing the work.
Anyway, I found out that if I copy one vertical picture in a new canvas (with Photoshop, for instance) with Width: 1024 and Height:1538 and save it as a new picture then that distortion problem disappears.
The question is: In order to resize them, do I have to copy and paste one by one the 400 vertical pictures that I have in that project?
Thanks in advance.

The ancient "Graphic Workshop Professional - by Alchemy" allows you to batch resize...

Thanks.
I've just tested it and it seems to be a very good program. You can work with many pictures at the same time.
Anyway I think I'll have to give it up because I can't find a way to fit a vertical picture in the size of an horizontal one without the copy and paste procedure.
I mean with that program you can resize a vertical image but you can not give it the format of an horizontal one, or at least I don't now how to do it.

Please explain why, if simply changing from Width: 682 and Height: 1024 to Width: 1024 and Height:1538 solved your distortion problem for one picture, it doesn't solve your problem for converting all of your pictures to Width: 682 and Height: 1024 to Width: 1024 and Height:1538?

First of all, I wrote it wrong. The change must be done to Widht:1538 Height:1024.
The thing is that If I open one vertical image (Width: 682 Height:1024) in Photoshop and change the CANVAS SIZE (not the image size) to Widht:1538 Height:1024, then I save it and the result image when imported in Scenarist shows very good. But that must be done image by image. A lot of work.
With Graphic Workshop you don't have an option to change the canvas size, only the image size, and that's why if I rescale the image to 1538 x 1024 it distorts it immediately.
One good thing would be to find a program that allows a batch change of canvas size.
Or may be there's another solution for avoiding that problem with vertical pictures. I don't know. For the moment, changing the canvas size it works.

I'm not sure that this will help resolve your problem, but it appears that there is scripting/automating possible (using a plug-in) with Photoshop:

Please let me know if this helps

You can avoid using plugins in photoshop by creating an action to change canvas size then using the batch command in the file menu to affect the images

You can record your history and play it back again in Photoshop( CS2?).

Thank you all. It works.
The thing is yesterday I invested a couple of hours with Photoshop CS2 trying to make the batch action to work. Without success. I don't know well the program and after reading the part of the batch processing in the Help File I got stuck when it says "if you don't see your action you may need to load a different set in the palette". After that sentence they could at least give a hint of how can you do that. For instance: "see how to create a new action". But they say nothing more about it.
Obviously, for taking the most of that program you need helpful people who give you advice.
Thank you.

@Talayero
Which method did you successfully use?

In Photoshop CS2 I went to the Window Actions and created a new action with the following steps: opening one of the vertical pictures, changing its canvas (in order to make it horizontal) and saving the new image. Then, with that action already recorded, I went to File Automate Batch, chose that new action and applied on the folder where I have my 400 vertical pictures. In less than half of a minute I had all of them converted.

Thanks for sharing that information!
Batch processing sure makes things a lot easier ;>}
