View Full Version : Convert video from SWF -> AVI (or any other "usefull" video container)

Don't know if this is the right section, but here is my question:

I just bought an Audio-CD that comes with "Bonus-Videos"
Unfortunately the videos are stored as Flash files (.swf)
To make it clear: Those are *not* animations! It's "real" Video captured with movie camera. Looks like MPEG compressed video. I don't think it's MJPEG, because the quality is too good for that file-size. Didn't know, that SWF files can contain such material until today...

The .swf files play with my Web-Browser and of course with the "Menu" that auto-starts from the CD. Nevertheless I'd like to convert the vidoes to a more usefull container for video (like AVI, MP4 or MPEG-PS). Maybe burn the videos on Video-CD later. But I got no idea, which tool can do this :(

Has somebody ever tried this or can give me any information abouth this ???

Thanks for reply :)

Okay.

I now know that there's a video object in those .swf files.
But only one tool (Flash Decompiler) is able to export that as AVI.
Unfotunately this program is not free and adds some ugly Text to the video in Test version.
Furthermore the exportet Video is gray, the original flash is in color !!!

Any one knows a better tool for exporting the video Object to AVI ???

SFW2Video seems to bee a good tool, but it adds a big X to the video and I won't pay 80$ to convert 4 .swf files :(

Isn't there a similar free tool? Or at least a trial version that creates "useable" video output?

I haven't tried this, but you should be able to use one of those "flash decompilers" to extract out the .flv file (which is the actual video file without the flash player front-end) and then use mplayer to convert it to whatever format you desire.

MP4Box can import swf, just the MP4Box.exe from the GPAC pack will suffice.
From the commandline help :

==============================================

SWF Importer Options

MP4Box can import simple Macromedia Flash files (".SWF")
You can specify a SWF input file with '-bt', 'xmt' and '-mp4' options

-static: all SWF defines are placed in first scene replace
* Note: By default SWF defines are sent when needed
-ctrl: uses a dedicated stream for movie control
* Note: Forces '-static'
-notext: removes all SWF text
-nofont: removes all embedded SWF Fonts (terminal fonts used)
-noline: removes all lines from SWF shapes
-nograd: removes all gradients from swf shapes
-quad: uses quadratic bezier curves instead of cubic ones
-xlp: support for lines transparency and scalability
-flatten ang: complementary angle below which 2 lines are merged
* Note: angle '0' means no flattening

==============================================

It's free, of course.

Once extracted you can convert FLV files to XviD or x264 with MEncoder, which should be the recommended way and doesn't need to pay for strange Flash converter software...

Problem is, getting the FLV file out of the SWF...

// Edit

I have to try if extracting FLV from SWF works with MP4Box...

look here

these tools are not free but they don't add big ugly logos and texts, they add a little logo in the lower right hand corner! and personally i don't see something terrible in it. i use free trial versions. i tried all these converters. NO problems with quality, COLOR, audio in outputs! many useful features and options but easy to use. advise you to try.
