I've just tried VLC and am very impressed by it... only problem is that in full-screen mode the (Windows XP) taskbar stays at the bottom of the screen. Switching on 'always on top' doesn't help.

I have 'keep the taskbar on top of other windows' switched on in the taskbar options... switching that off makes all maximised applications (including VLC) utilise the whole screen, but that's hardly ideal.

Is there anyway to set VLC to use the whole screen without altering the behaviour of other programs?

I just tried my copy and it removes the task bar when I put it in full screen mode. I invoke full screen by right clicking on the movie while it is playing and choosing the "FullScreen" option. I'm using 0.8.4a.

Thank you... that was enough to let me narrow down the problem.

I use a utility called True X-Mouse (http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/nt/TXMouse/) which among other things copies anything you select and pastes with a middle button/wheel click (extremely useful if you have RSI)... but it also messes with window order and was causing the full-screen problems. Thanks for the help!
