Playback doesn't even start with VSFilter 2.37 registered, everythng works fine with VobSub 2.23, the problem occurs only with the AVI container, any clues?

Versions used:
Haali Media Splitter 1.6.49.0 (18-01-2006)
VobSub 2.23
VSFilter 2.37
Winamp 5.12 / Winamp 5.2 Beta (build 365)

Thank you.

I've seen the problem before in Winamp except no matter what container VSFilter would not load (OGM or MKV). The "solution" I found was turning on autoloading VSFilter in Haali's Media Splitter settings.

I would not expect full DirectShow support from Winamp anyways.

Also, what are the main differences between VobSub 2.23 and VSFilter 2.37?

Thanks.

vobsub and vsfilter are the same, having both registered the same time can only lead to conflict, though VSfilter should overwrite the registration of vobsub iirc. VobSub 2.23 is just horribly outdated version of what is called vsfilter now ...

VSFilter 2.37,2.36 and 2.35 don't work with winamp.
The latest version of VSFilter that works with winamp (loads embedded subtitles in MP4,3GP,MKV and OGM with Haali Splitter) is 2.34
Download it from sourceforge.

Also use Haali Splitter only for MP4,3GP,MKV and OGM in Winamp.
Don't use it with AVIs!Use Microsoft's or Gabest Avi Splitter for AVIs.
Haali Splitter in Winamp can't load external subtitles for AVIs.

I never have both registered at the same time, I "regsrv32 -u" one before "regsrv32"ing the other.
[...]VobSub 2.23 is just horribly outdated version of what is called vsfilter now ...I knew that, thanks, but VSFilter is now simply provided as a DLL, while VobSub 2.23 came packaged with a nice set of tools, anyone in the know as to why they aren't included anymore please?

Haali Splitter in Winamp can't load external subtitles for AVIs.Actually Haali's splitter does work in Winamp with VobSub 2.23 and AVI's, will test tonight with VSFilter 2.34, anyway I'd like to follow your suggestion, so could you please tell me how to enable Gabest's splitter for AVI's only and Haali's for MP4 and MKV?

Finally, I'd like to know how BSPlayer 1.37 behaves in this regard, as i'm considering switching to it, thank you.

Gabest's avi splitter has higher merit than microsoft's.If you register it, it should bypass microsoft's one.
The problem is that both have the same name which is "Avi Splitter" and this might confuse you.
That's why I have compiled Gabest's avi splitter with a different name,"Gabest Avi Splitter".Get it from

http://rapidshare.de/files/12271496/avisplitter_20051125.zip.html

Then register it,open and play your avi file to winamp,go to view file info... and see if a filter named as "Gabest Avi Splitter" is listed in currently used filters. If this filter exists there you're 100% sure that you are using Gabest's avi splitter.
Also make sure you haven't enabled avi support during haali's splitter installation.
As regard BSPlayer,I can't help you on this because I never liked this player,
never will and never used it for more than 5 minutes.

Okay, just tested and with VSFilter 2.34 Haali's splitter works fine with AVI's too in Winamp 5.2 beta for your info, anyway I've registered your compile of the Gabest one and have zero probs with that too, thanks a lot again for your help and suggestions.

Final couple of requests:
do you think you could spend a minute elaborating on your opinion of BSPlayer please?
care to share what DirectShow player you're using?

Cheers.

DARcode I never liked players with seperate video windows. This is a matter of personal taste of course.
However I will never forgive BSPlayer the fact that the last time I installed it (the pro version in particular) because of the promising tv tuner support, every time I tried to open my tv tuner via BSPlayer I always was getting scary blue screens of death.I saved my tv tuner only after installing its drivers again.
I also don't trust video specialized players that in year 2006 even in their commercial version don't have and don't intend to have DVD playback support.I think it's pathetic(this is my personal opinion of course!!!)

The directshow players I'm using

Winamp with nullsoft media player 10 SUI skin.
As I said I never liked players with seperate video windows, that's I 'm using this skin, the only good working and real SUI skin for winamp that includes all winamp windows into one.

Media Player Classic
The BEST video player ever made.

Zoom Player
Very good video player with skins support. The latest zoom player skins are very beautiful.

Thank you for pointing me that Haali's splitter works fine with AVI's too in Winamp and made me look at it further. Now it works for me too.
There was something wrong in my ffdshow configuration.I had to check the "allow output format changes during playback" and "connect to compatible filters only" options.
Because of this I have a gift for you.Check your private messages.
