Theoretically nobody can stop if one wants to download a movie that he already owns. Only the source will be liable in such a case, not the downloader. But we're talking theory here. The practice is different. We should all take care what we post. What we do in private should best remain private. Rule 6 almost applies to amram's post.
Problem is: it's not easy for a newcomer to assess the underlying guiding principles of a forum. Domm9's is easily the most literate, knowledgeable, techno-savvy environment I have come across. Formative principles and vigilant moderation have kept it that way. There's an astonishing quantity of technical talent here, and help of all kinds are available. We actually insult all this by thinking that we will get assistance for breaking the law. Doom9 has repeatedly gone on record oppsing MPAA and in defense of Fair Use, but he won't help anyone break the law just to take a swipe at MPAA. There are lots of fora that will do that for a kick. But that won't happen here.
But then, we all learn by making mistakes. All's well as long as we do learn.

There are sites that offer VoD downloads. For example, www.Movielink.com

Hi!Rule 6 almost applies to amram's post.Actually, the "ANNOUNCEMENT" at the top of this, the "Newbies" sub-forum specifically precludes making reference to "downloading files", regardless of the legality of same.

If not longer. Just cos you own it, doesn't make the DL legal.
I wonder why this thread remains open.

because i have to sleep sometimes too ...
@amram: if you own the DVD, do a backup of the original - everything else wouldn't make the least bit of sense...
