I'm interested here, too. According to the DV Decoder Differences sticky, it seems every codec performs some sort of pre or post-processing on the video.
What I wonder (as a secondary question to this topic), is there a DV codec that just records the image? No sharpening or softening, no conversion to YUY2 or RGB? In my opinion, the 'best' codec would be the one that just compresses the image without altering it. That way, if you want to, you can use more sophisticated tools for the job...
Thanks.

On that note, are there any other DirectShow DV Decoders out there other than the Microsoft one? Would be nice to have one with a gamma or brightness control bar like the XviD codec.

You can decode DV using FFDShow

Ah yeah.. forgot about ffdshow. Also I found that MainConcept's DV Codec also has a DirectShow filter. I just used DSFilterManager to bump its priority above the Microsoft one.
So there's 3 now that I know about:
1) Microsoft's Default DV Decoder
2) FFDShow's DV Decoder
3) MainConcept's DV Decoder
anyone know of any others?

Far as I can tell that doesn't have a DirectShow decoder, just a VFW Decoder. I'm looking for DirectShow only decoders, i.e. the ones you see in Media Player Classic when you go to Play -> Filters when you're playing back a DV .avi.
