I recently got the Gilmore Girls collection for my girlfriend and I was wondering how I could get these to playback on a standard DVD player.

The method I've been using up to date has been to put the DVD into my machine, then shrink it,(depending on size) creating an ISO and burning with DVD Decrypter. The DVD will playback on my computer's DVD software, but when I put the DVD into a regular DVD player nothing happens.

This has worked with all other DVD's I've made backups of, but for some reason this isn't doing the trick. If you guys have any other methods or have spotted something that I'm doing wrong, let me know. I'm just confused as to why this has worked for all of my other backups and not these. Like I said, if you have any info or other techniques, please let me know. Everyone here seems quite knowledgeable, so I figured this would be the place to go.

Hi!The DVD will playback on my computer's DVD software, but when I put the DVD into a regular DVD player nothing happens. This sounds like an issue of media compatibility.

1) Are you using a different batch of burnable media than you previously used successfully?

2) Are you using a different standalone DVD player than you previously used?

3) Did you burn this DVD at a higher speed than previous ones?

To determine the capabilities/limitations of your specific brand and model of standalone DVD player, as well as media compatibility, go to:

By the way, for future reference, you should make your thread title more meaningful (e.g. "Burned DVD playback problem")

Thanks for the welcome and replies already, and to answer your questions setarip_old, I'm not using a different batch of DVDs, I'm still testing the DVDs on the same DVD player, and I'm burning at the same speed as I always have been. I just don't understand why nothing played back, that's all.

Sorry for the rule-breaking there. I fixed it. ^_^

I just don't understand why nothing played back, that's all.1) If you NOW try to play one of your previous, successful burns, on the same standalone DVD player, does it now play properly?

2) Does your standalone DVD player generate an error message when you try to play this peoblematic burned DVD? If so, what is it? What brand and model number is the player?

3) Does your original, purchased DVD play properly on the standalone DVD player?

Once again before I reply, I'd like to say thanks setarip_old for all the effort and time you've put into reading my posts to give me help.

My previous successful burn of a DVD played fine on the same DVD player. When I go to play the new burned DVD of Gilmore Girls on it, it doesn't give me an error message, it just doesn't play. The brand of the DVD player is Memorex, and the model number is MVD2042. Yes, my original purchased DVD plays back on the standalone DVD player.

Sorry for being such a nuisance, but I just want you to know that I appreciate all the help that's been given thus far.

My previous successful burn of a DVD played fine on the same DVD playerAt the risk of sounding extremely picky about your response - As I asked, does it NOW play properly?

Hehe, yes it does. I played it 5 minutes before replying to the post. I'm rather stumped here.

The only other suggestion I'd have at this point is to burn another copy (Perhaps use a disc from further down in your stack of blanks, rather than the very next one) - and just for the heck of it, try playing your problematic burned DVD on another (hopefully different brand/model) standalone DVD player...
