View Full Version : Xvid + AC3 -> Xvid + MP3 for standalone?

I've got avi with an Xvid codec and a AC3 stream. Unfortunately my standalone won't play it back. Since other xvids do run just fine I assume it's the audio track that's causing problems. Is there an easy way to demultiplex the file, convert AC3 to MP3 and mux it back together?
In case this is the wrong forum pls move thread. Thanks.

yep, open the avi, go to streams-streams list. click the demux button in the bottom right and this will give you a nice ac3 file.
convert it with belight or whatever.
go back into the stream list, double click on ac3 to make it greyed out. click add, locate new mp3. set video to direct stream copy and then save.

I think that the problem could be the XviD video instead.. Did you check GMC and QPel?

Hi!Is there an easy way to demultiplex the file, convert AC3 to MP3 and mux it back together?If, in fact, the audiostream is the source of your problem (I tend to think "Mod" is correct), there's no need to demux convert and then remux.
Just load the XviD file into the VirtualDubMOD and:
1) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"
2) Click on the "Streams" dropdown menu and rightclick on your .AC3 audiostream
3) Select "Compression" and choose "MPEG Layer3" from the leftside pane and then the desired MP3 settings from the rightside pane (If the rightside pane remains empty, put a check next to "Show all formats"
4) Save with a new filename

I'm afraid you guys are correct cause after successfully swapping the audio stream it still won't play. How do I check for GMC and QPel? I'm not deep enough into video codecs...

Download Mpeg4Modifier (http://www.moitah.net) and post the results :)

Load it into mpeg4modifier and click video info.

You'll also need to install Micro$oft's .NET, in order to run MPEG Modifier.
That said, there are other tools you can use to determine whether your MPEG-4 encode includes "Advanced Simple Profile" (ASP) implementations such as B-VOP, GMC (aka: S-VOP) and Qpel.
Try GSpot 2.52B1 (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/gspot252dl.html) and/or Sigma's AVIcheck (http://81.98.148.105/Uploaded_Files/Doom9_Forum_files/Sigma's_AVIcheck.zip).

Argh, I hate to have to install .NET so here's
Avicheck:
B-VOP: Yes
S(GMC)-VOP: No
QuarterPixel: No
Frame Size: 960 x 544
Frames Rate: 23.976
Color Depth: 12
Total Frames: 69032
SuggestedBufferSize: 185880
So it's B-VOP, my player does not support it so I'm screwed? When I used Gspot a window popped up asking for my XP SP2 CD. What's that about?

You'll have to reencode.

Darn. Which is the fastest tool to do that, VirtualDub?

I also notice your encode has a resolution of 960x544 (522,240 total) pixels.
The MPEG-2/4 decoding chip-sets fitted within all current standard-def devices only support resolutions of up to 720x576 (414,720 total) pixels....
So you would have been stuffed anyway!

@Chetwood
It would probably be simpler for you to re-rip and convert/compress from your original, purchased DVD...

Doh guys, I should have realized it was because of the higher resolution. Thx.
