i have a divx i want to convert to dvd, ive done this using nero vision and allthough the video/audio was of good quality the audio was out of sync (sometimes by about 4 seconds), i tried converting it again using divxtodvd then burning it with nero which worked fine but the problem is that i cant create a menu this way (well i can but only a very basic one). the audio in the divx is ac3 which ive heard can cause problems, basically what im asking is if there is a way to fix the sync problem so i can make a menu for the dvd. im a complete novice at this as this is the first time ive attempted converting/burning video files.
thanks.

Using Nero for video conversion is as dumb as using Winamp for video playback.
Proper MPEG video conversion must be done with tools such as TMPEG Encoder. Nero must be *only* is used to burn the DVD files.

@InuyashaSama: :readrule: That is all I can say to your comment. BTW: Where were the mods in this case?
Nevertheless, let me give you a reason why Nero must not be used *only* for burning:
Not everyone has the time to study all the guides to do a "perfect" DVD out of her/his DivX material. So, why not use Nero Vision to do a quick and nice conversion without great knowledge? And why not, if you can live with the quality?
Because of my spare time, I gave Nero Vision 4 a try, and experienced the same problem as leo27 did.
So, I would appreciate, if someone could help us? BTW: My audio is MP3 in a XviD file.

@InuyashaSama:
Using Nero for video conversion is as dumb as using Winamp for video playback.
I will have to disagree with you.
Nero Vision is aimed at ppl. with little or none transcoding knowledge, so i guess that would be your OWN opinion. Overall, it is a very good app. and it deserves to be treated right.
@Leo27 and Snowbeach:
That is very odd...
I have used Nero Vision plenty of times and i never had an audio sync issue.
I think the problem might be in the .AVI itself.
This is a rule of thumb IMHO, and i guess most ppl. here would agree with me.
Before doing and .AVI to whatever conversion, make sure you run it thru VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod.
It will tell you everything you need to know about your file AND fix it too.
For newbies:
1- Load your .AVI into VirtualDubMod. ( or VitualDub )
2- If the program asks you if you want to keep the header of your file, just say yes, if not, you will end up screwing the file. :(
3- Go to the video tab and select: "Direct Stream Copy".
4- Press F7 to save your new .AVI file, and give it a name.
5- Wait until VDM is done, and check your new .AVI.
This works about all the time but:
If everything went well, the audio issue could be gone.
If not, obviously the audio is bad and you might need to demux your .AVI and fix the audio with BeSweet or your favorite Audio Encoding software.
If you shall encounter a different issue not mentioned here on this post, you can always use the "Search" feature and look it up in the forums. This problem has been addressed several times.
Cheers ;)

Thanks for answering. Just for your information: The AVI itself is synch and the audio is VBR.
What version of Nero Vision are you using?
I am going to try it with VDM 1.5.10.1 now.... And I did not want to "rewrite the header", because of an "improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file (audio stream 1)". ;) Going to post the results later this day.
BTW. Nero Vision 4 needs its time to open (some seconds)...
@ InuyashaSama
please keep personal comments on a users choice of programs to helpful suggestions rather than scathing attack, in future. every member of this forum has the right to ask a question without having their methodology ridiculed.
thanks

I would agree to the way @InuyashaSama replied but apart from sarcasm, he is right.
NeroVision has this problem. I've had it alot of times myself. It happens mostly when you are trying to encode files from variable bit rates to constant bit rates or vice versa. I never had this problem after increasing my RAM (strange).
So it appears that NeroVision while muxing the two streams (audio and video), puts a lag in between the two. Apparently, using tools like TmpGenc would be better. Sticking with tools that are user friendly helps at times but when they give problems, its wise to shift to a better program.

To get an ending to the discussion, if you agree or disagree with the statement of InuyashaSama - just think about the following...
Is it dumb to live in an appartment, house or would you prefer to live in a cave?
Is it dumb to switch the radiator on or would you prefer to make a fire in your cave?
Is it dumb to drive a car to get from A to B or would you prefer to walk on foot the 50 miles?
Is it dumb to use a computer to do some encoding or would you prefer not to encode?
However, if it is dumb to use user friendly proggies, why would you use Windows or Mac OS and not a command line based operating system like in the good old times?
I hope you get my point and we can stop any further comments on such a dumb statement.
Back to the problem: It might be a VBR problem or in general a MP3 problem. But because of my spare time, I am not able to test it with CBR audio or a WAV, because I do not have the time for transcoding it. If I do this, I can stick than to my old method, it will cost me the same time.
Nevertheless, I will keep an eye on this thread and I hope someone will have a solution for this problem. Even though it is going to be just a confirmation of a Nero sided issue. Thanks.
PS: The real cool guys encode script based. :D
