View Full Version : extremaly un-expert: Alcohol 120% profile for DVDs?

Hi. Please excuse me, but I'm going to buy a DVD burner that I never had and I'm a total newbie, on this.

My question is: is burning a DVD different than burning a CD?
I'm asking this because on DVD decrypter I see 'Write Mode': CD, DVD, Auto and if I look on Alcohol 120% (please note that I now have only a CD burner) I see the Disc Types: Normal CD, Audio CD, VOB protected CD and so on.. that is only 'CD profiles'.

What will I have to do, once I will install a DVD burner? Will I see new 'DVD profiles' on Alcohol 120%, once I choose the DVD recorder as recorder (like Normal DVD , Audio DVD and so on) or I'll have to re-install Alcohol 120%, so that it will see, during instalation, that I have a DVD recorder?

I'm asking this because the 'Write Modes' listed on DVD decrypter seem to suggest that burning a DVD is different fom burning a CD.

Please note that I'm not speaking of copying a protected DVD. I'm just asking what must I do to burn on a DVD-R a plain .ISO image (like the one made with DVD Decryper on 'read mode').
The only profiles that seem to exist are for CDs! There should be at least a 'Normal DVD' profile, if Alcohol 120% doesn't copy protected DVDs!

Thanks

Simple burn with DVDDecrypter in the write mode. Alcohol can also burn iso-files.

Hi!I'm asking this because on DVD decrypter I see 'Write Mode': CD, DVD, AutoI'm not aware of any version of DVD Decrypter having such options - but I'm always willing to learn something new, if I'm incorrect..

What version of DVD Decrypter do you have - and where in DVD Decrypter did you locate these options? Is it possibly something nestled under the "ISO" mode, that only appears if you put a CD in your drive?

Last version existing, 3.5.4.0, and I to saw there is something different. For instance under Settings__ISO write moe I see three drop-down box : Write Mode, Write Type, Link Size.

Amnon82, why Alcohol 120% now shows (now that I only have a CD burner) CD Datatype profiles (Normal CD, Audio CD and so on)?

Will DVD datatypes appear (like 'Normal DVD') once I select, as recorder, a DVD burner or a new profile 'Normal DVD' appear once I have a new DVD-RW unit?
Or I'll have to re-instlall Alcohol 120% to make new capabilities appear?

I'm asking this bacause I see, on Alcohol 120% burning page 'CD/DVD recorder:', but on Settings__Data Type Settings I see 'Modify your CD data-type settings...' and it seems no DVD data-type exist in Alcohol 120%.
I wouldn't burn coasters when burning such a simple thing as a DVD-ROM ISO, or a ripped DVD ISO.

Thanks in advance.
