Subtitles only selectable via Menu?

One of my DVDs does not respond to the Subtitle button on my remote control--it only displays or switches subtitle tracks via the DVD menu. Is this a setting somewhere that can be changed, so that I can turn subs On or Off "on-the-fly" using the player's remote control?

It sounds like there's a Prohibited User Operation (PUO) set to disable the changing of subtitle streams via the remote.

You can remove PUOs by running the disc through DVD Shrink (for example full backup mode, no compression), which will clear the PUOs for you. Or process the DVD (without changing anything) with VobBlanker.
