Three, hopefully, quick questions about DVDs and recording:
1. My panasonic dvd recorder can be set to record for 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, and other speeds. What I don't understand is: how does this map to "typical" DVD recording speed nomenclature
(e.g. 2X, 8X, 16x)? Is it a one to one correlation?
(meaning if its set to record for 2 hours, does that mean its recording at 2x?)
2. I don't really know the max speed that the recorder can record at, but let's assume for the sake of argument, it is 4x. If that is the case, what advantage or disadvatage would there be in using 16x DVD as opposed to 8X?
(The 16x media I have seen comes with a warning that it might not be playable if your hardware has not had a firmware update)
3. I read somewhere that re-writeable media (e.g. DVD-RW or DVD+RW) typically has to be made to more rigorous standards in order for it to BE re-writeable. I' m wondering: if my goal in archiving my home movies is longevity (and cost is not a consideration) might it be better to record to DVD-RW or DVD+RW and then just finalize and save it? Because its made "better", might it hold up better over the long run?
Thanks for you input!
