Well, I've been using WinDVD 7 Platinum for a while. I have an Audigy 2 soundcard (that supports hardware AC3 decoding through S/PDIF).
So I've been testing the audio quality between my hardware decoding and WinDVD, PowerDVD decoding and my hardware is always the winner.
OK, I use hardware decoding, but does anyone know a reason why software decoding is worse? Sound seems like muffled and "less alive". Is it because DirectShow is in the way degrading the audio or because software decoding is worse indeed?
