Im currently trying to do the transformation: VHS --> DVD on a number of Videos. Currently have an ATI All in Wonder 9600XT card thats used for capture, and a Creative soundblaster for Audio Capture. OS: Windows 2000.But Im having some problems capturing using Virtual Dub.

Virtualdub captures the VHS upside down. But when preview acceleration is on its normal size. Ive tried other programs and its the right way up. Although not a proper problem (can flip it later) its just a bit weird.
The Audio through ati's cables doesn't work and when I use a cable to capture directly from VHS --> Card the sound is sometimes distorted.

Are there any other free programs I can try, im having some problems with virtualdub and sometimes getting memory access errors (which I think is the card). Anyone got any tips?

The audio from ATI's cables is only for its tuner and is meant to be looped back into the sound card. You'll need to plug the audio out from the VCR directly into the Line In on your sound device.

With an ATI card, VirtualDub is one of the best ways to capture if you plan to convert to XviD/DivX because you won't have audio synch problems that way.

For YUY2 capture in virtualdub you have to tell it to flip the picture vertically so it captures right-side up. I don't remember exactly where it is, probably under video -> format (where you choose the codec and specify the size). There is a box that says "vertical flip for YUY2", something like that.
Hope this helps.
