Hi Folks.

I've been a "lurker" on these forums for years and only registered recently and I now need some help and advice if possible please.

I'm almost deaf and I’d like to add subtitles to a DVD movie. The movie is in .VOB files and 4.463 Gig long. I have two separate .SUB files (part one and two ?) and I'd like to know (in the simplest, basic layman’s terms) how to actually put them on/in the film.

Thank you in advance. Ditz

ditz, if you have been lurking around for some time in this forum section, you would have seen tons of topics where this has been discussed... ;)

Take a look at this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=770359#post770359) on how to add subtitles to a DVD.

And this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=772426#post772426) on how to join text subtitles from two files into one file for the DVD.

Good luck! :)

@ditz

Hi!

1) What is the title and Region of the DVD?

2) Doesn't your original, purchased DVD already contain the subtitles?

GULP !

Thanks for that CoNS. I have actually read some threads on here but I was hoping that someone might've come up with an easier way of doing it or maybe there was one pgm that would do the job for me ..... like errrr... automatically.

Hi Setarip_old

Title is Hamburger Hill (I own the original movie btw), it's region 2 and nope, it doesn't have subtitles.

Neither does my Region 1 version (No alternate languages either). Maybe the producers thought nobody would be interested in what Charlie Sheen and his buddies had to say in any language other than English ;>}

And actually, it's not hard to do at all (once you know how to do it!!!) :p

As an all-in-one tool, DVDLab Pro is probably the best choice... Or try the wizard in the "Tools" menu of SubtitleCreator, which works "on top of" various freeware tools and does the dirty work for you when it comes to demuxing, creating the new subs and adding it all back together!

Well Lads

Thanks for the advice but I never got anywhere. I used various programs by downloading the free trials but I didn't get anywhere with any of them.

The nearest I got was with SubtitleCreator and the other pgms required to go with it. I got to grips with part of it and all seemed to be going well (ish), then it just started going over my head. If I had someone here showing me how to do it I'm pretty sure I could use SubtitleCreator.

I also tried DVDLab Pro and only got as far as opening the program before I was out of my depth.

I'm going to have to pass on this project for a while due to lack of time. I might give SubtitleCreator another stab later though.

Thanks again

Ahhhhhhhh......slight success !

I decided to have one more go before I gave up and I used the wizard in SubtitleCreator as CoNS suggested (I had to install a few more pgms that the wizard asked for). After a few clicks I eventually ended up with a window playing the movie with the subtitles (878 of them) in a frame below which scrolled down as the actors spoke (and as far as I could tell it was in sync !). Now I was getting excited :)

But it all ended there :( I couldn't find anymore buttons to click to go onto the next stage, like adding the subtitles to the movie or whatever should happen next ?. Any body got any ideas ?.

Thanks in advance

You are almost there...:)
Grab PCDemux http://www.videohelp.com/~jsoto/dvdtools.htm
Gran Muxman http://www.mpucoder.com/Muxman/versions.html

Be aware of the ifo file concerning the movie, open PCDemux and demux everything somewhere on your HD.
I suppose you already have the sup file made with SC.
Open then Muxman and mix the whole thing again into a third directory, including the sup file (remember to set LB and WIDE buttons on the right of Muxman for the sup file) and voila..you'll have the movie with the sub.
When you have done so you may play a little with the positions of the subs in within SC for the next time you decide to make a movie with subs.
Many other things may be done but start here:)
