I recently captured an VHS movie as an MPEG and Authored it, but the audio is slightly out of sync. Can and I fix the sync with VDubMod and if so, how?

Load the video into VirtualDubMod, click Streams > Stream list, right click the audio track and select "Interleaving," and from there you can adjust the skew. Before you save it, click Video > Direct stream processing, and you'll be saving it without re-rendering.

I Converted the VHS to DVD, so it started in MPEG2 and I had to rip it with DVD Decrypter in file mode. So right now they are VOB files. I know what your getting at...what format to save it in? I'm thinking of frame severing to TMPGEnc and hopefully I won't get a a sync p[roblem. I have had that happend to me before. Am I on the right track?

setarip-old, Is there a way to calculate the skew value or is it a matter of just trial and error?

You can resynch the MPEG file as follows:
1) Load it into TMPGEnc
2) Set mode to "MPEG-2 Program[VBR]"
3) From under the "Advanced" tab, put a checkmark next to and then double click on "Source Range"
4) Enter an appropriate positive or negative amount of milliseconds (thousandths of a second) next to "Audio gap correct"
5) Save with a new filename
Let us know of your success ;>}

I ripped it again into one big VOB with DVD Decrypter and when I loaded it into TMPGEnc it wouldn't show an audio source. I tried both VBR and CBR. DO you have any suggestions?

In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to one greater than the highest priority of listed items. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept .AC3 audio for input...

"Direct Show Multimedia Reader" was already set to highest. I set it to one higher; then to lower setting and then back to original setting and not one worked...still no audio. Could it be that I have a single VOB that is to large? I'll try ripping it again with DVDd and seperate them to files and just load each VOB with the same settings. I'll let you know and thanks for the help.

I just checked it with a smaller VOB. TMPGEnc doesn't seem to like VOBs. Could you verify if you can load VOBs so I can verify it isn't just settings?

1) Make sure that "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" is set to one higher than ANY OTHER listed item (In other words, no other item should have a priority number equal to or greater than "Direct Show Multimedia Reader")
2) If you still can't get it to accept your .VOB, first demultiplex it into an .M2V and an .AC3 stream in TMPGEnc, as follows:
TMPGEnc>>File>>MPEG Tools>>Simple Demultiplex
3) Set TMPGEnc's main window to "System (Video and Audio)" and drag&drop your .M2V file onto it. It should automatically load the .AC3 audio file (Since it will have the same name plus an extender of .AC3

I'm doing the Simple Demux right now. I'll let you know how it goes. I guess this should be in a different area. Thanks again, you've been very helpful.

setarip_old, I did just as you suggested and Demuxed it to an M@V and AC3 file but TMPGEnc still won't accept the ac3 file as audio. Is there anything I need to change in the Audio Engine settings? Internal / External ? It has to be a setting or a codec that isn't recognized or something. Any ideas?

Try using AC3Fix on the .AC3 audiostream - and then try loading again (Both .M2V and .AC3) into TMPGEnc...

setarip_old, I was able to fix the sync problem by importing the movie in a single VOB into VDubMod, adjusted the audio sync, and frame served it into TMPGEnc. I tried doing it the way you suggested, but I couldn't get it to work. But thanks for the help. it's really appreciated.
