Hi All,

I'd like to back up Lawrence of Arabia without the introduction "overture" 5min or so of audio with blank video . Can't seem to find anywhere how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Hi!

If you don't mind losing the menu (unless you're willing to use additional programs), simply use DVD Shrink in "Re-author" mode - and select your "Start and End" points. You can use this same method to eliminate, if I remember correctly, the almost interminable "Intermission" black screen woth music...

Thanks setarip....shrink never occurred to me. No, I don't mind losing the menus as this is the "Superbit" ver on 2 discs and still compresses @ 70% each, when I also use 2 discs. And, you're right, there's that intermission on disc2

Follow up....Shrink can't edit out a portion of movie somewhere after the start.
However I found the solution in VobBlanker, which can.

Shrink can't edit out a portion of movie somewhere after the startSure it can. For example, if you have a movie with 36 chapters and you want to keep chapters 1-14 and 21-36, the "cheater's way" is:

1) Go directly to "Re-author" mode and load TWO copies of your DVD

2) Highlight the first iteration and select "start and end frames" and select chapters 1-14

3) Highlight the second iteration and select "start and end frames" and select chapters 21-36

4) Save

The only "shortcoming" of this method is that the two segments will be saved as separate titles - so there will possibly be a very minor (one second) delay as you go from Title 1 to Title 2. If this is unacceptable, you can then use DVD2One or DVD95Copy (or, undoubtedly, some other software) to join them into one title...

Ah Ha....double secret cheaters way eh ? Thanks again for the info setarip !

Actually, and I was lucky in this case, the itermission in Lawrence was a
single cell so that the transition back to the movie was smooth visually and audibly. All it took was a blank of that cell and about 1 min of processing.

Glad to hear that all worked well for you ;>}

PgcEdit can also delete (kill playback) of cells, so that the material is "disabled", but not removed from the disc (there's no space reduction).

And even if the unwanted part is partly located in one or more cells (like some studio logos at the beginning of the movie, and also often the end credits), you can remove it by using VobBlanker's cut function. Here's (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/guides/VobBlanker/prevcut/) a guide. This way, you won't get the small pause between the titles, as with the DVD Shrink method. And you can also process the entire DVD without loosing the menus etc.

Actually, I find that blanking does reduce disk size, as it replaces the blanked info with a very small file. You can see this reduction in the uuper right of the gui. Someone correct me if this is wrong.

I have had no luck using the cut function so thanks for the link to the guide, I'll give it a try again.

Blanking (a cell) with VobBlanker replaces the cell with a blank frame. This will give you space reduction.

But deleting a cell in PgcEdit, which I was talking about, only "disables" the cell. It doesn't remove it from the DVD. (this can be done afterwards by running it through FixVTS, or processing it in VobBlanker without making any other changes). In my previous post I just mentioned PgcEdit's delete cell function as an example of an alternative method of getting rid of the unwanted cell...
