MuxMan 0.17RC1 is available to members of mpucoder.com and includes many new features including linear editing and integrated demultiplexing, seamlees joints and pseudo-seamless branching, and many GUI enhancements.
At the same time version 0.15, the version needed as the alternative to Scenarist in the Big3 method, is now available as the free demo.

I have a script-based solution for placing multiple m2v/ac3 + menu on DVD, which uses mples/DVDAuthor. And I've been itching to use MuxMan 0.15 instead (it's redistributed so free is a must).

Thanks a lot :D

Integrated demux?! This is really cool! This is going to make lots of things much easier (such adding a subpic track, or an audio track). That's truly great!

I have a DVD with a faulty AC3 audio track that I want to fix and re-insert to the original VOBs and accompanying menu structure. Is this possible with 0.17?

I know I could do a movie-only backup of the disc, and re-mux it with the repaired soundtrack using MuxMan 0.15, but I'd like to keep the original structure (w/DVD extras) if possible. Is this doable?

EDIT: After thinking about it some more, I decided repairing the Movie Only was trivially easy and completely acceptable. Sorry to waste the bandwidth...

laserfan, actually you can easily add an extra step to the method you're using, and keep the menus, extra etc. The trick is to copy the newly muxed main movie PGC back into the original DVD structure.

IMO, the best way is to use VobBlanker's Replace PGC function for this. There's a guide on how to use the Replace function here (http://www.videohelp.com/~jsoto/guides/VobBlanker/adding_menus/) (step 6-8 in the guide).

There are some alternative methods to VobBlanker's Replace PGC function:

1. Load the DVD in PgcEdit and use the "Replace VTS" function to copy the new material into the DVD.

Or:

2. Use Windows Explorer to replace the original VTS with a new one (renumber the new main movie VTS in the filenames, if needed, to match the old one). Then use IfoUpdate or BatchUpdateIFO to update the IFOs of the original DVD with the correct information about the new material.

Normally the last mentioned two methods only work, if the VTS you are replacing only contains one PGC. However, VobBlanker's Replace function works on PGC level, and thus it usually is the safe choice as it should work no matter how the VTS is structured...

Hi mpucoder,

My apologies if this has been brought up before but I have noticed the following VOB size discrepanies....

The original DVD source (as with several other DVD sources I've just looked at) have maximum VOB sizes of: 1,048,404 KB: -

MuxMan however, appears to be generating the following VOB sizes: -

Although the difference is only 170KB, should it not be 1,048,404 KB?

MuxMan uses the maximum allowable file size, which is 2^19-1 sectors. 524287 x 2048 = 1073741824 bytes (1,048,574 KB)
The actual size is not important so long as it does not exceed this value. Below is Cayote Ugly, which split the vobs at NAV packs. And under that is XMen, which uses the same size as MuxMan.

Thanks for info...

I'm asking because I'm testing experimental firmware for the Zensonic Z500 network capable DVD player which (as of yesterday) includes support for full ISO (and IFO) file playback: -

http://img418.imageshack.us/img418/7263/z500isodisplay0lv.jpg

So far I've been able to play full ISO DVD back-up's created using DVD Decrypter.

But sadly, I've had no success playing any of my "bare-bones" MuxMan created DVD VOB sets, including those I've subsequently converted into ISO files using ImgTool Classic :(

And the only thing I can see that's different is the maximum VOB file size...

I don't know whether this is relevant but a couple of other testers (based in Australia) have reported some success creating "near bare-bone" DVD back-ups using DVD Shrink.... If you are interested I will ask them to send snap-shots of the VOB set file size/structure for comparison.

Cheers

can you dvd decrypt to file (full backup from original dvd in file mode) and then image tool that.. and see if that works as a comparison?

Hi Trahald,

What I and (judging from the PM's and e-mails I receive) many others want to do is, back-up the "movie" section of the DVD only, along with the primary audio stream, the chapters and maybe a subtitle track or two. We don't want to wade thru' loads of menu's, makings of, deleted scenes and all that other stuff the movie makers like to shove on a disc.

Indeed, all my DVD back-ups have been created using: DVD Decrypter -> MuxMan -> ImgTool Classic. And I'm proposing to create a "How to" about the subject over on the Z500 forum :)

However, because of my limited knowledge regarding the structures of DVD's, I'm at a loss as to why my "bare-bones" ISO DVD creations don't work :(

Cheers

Do the working ones have VIDEO_TS.VOB, as in your screenshot? Some burning programs, and, I expect, some iso makers, have a problem with file allocation if that file is missing or empty.

It would seem both the working and non working ISO back-ups have something written in the VIDEO_TS.VOB.

The ISO files that do not work in the Z500 seem to work okay in all the software players I have...

Here is what the structure of a "non working" (Z500) ISO file looks like in WinRAR: -

And here is what the same ISO file looks like when mounted using DEAMON Tools: -

Does this help?

I demuxed original movie with PgcDemux and added new subtitles. After using Muxman 0.15P I got this message:
Largest GOP of 34 fields exceeds DVD specification of 30, resulting DVD is non-standard.
Is this message something I should worry about? Can I correct this? What are the chances for this DVD not to play on standalone player? I don't wanna waste DL DVD (5€).
BTW original DVD plays fine.
