I've tried to encode video with x264 & MeGui using HQ Slowest profile (High Profile, MP4). As result, I've got video which crashes my Windows Media Player and playing with errors in Nero ShowTime (frame forward, frame backward, frame forward...).
I've tried to encode this video with other encoders and result is ok. How to fix the problem?

your sample plays fine here with windows media player 10, zoom player 4.5 and with media player classic 6.4.8.7 (using ffdshow 21.12.2005, matroska splitter 18.1.2006).

What kind info I should provide?basically everything you know that is related to this file: most important when talking about playback issues what filters you used
Here's the sample (http://rapidshare.de/files/11551844/test.mp4.html)i tested it now too and it seems to be the known bug in the nero dshow filters
i tried with haali, gabest, nero parser and ffdshow and coreavc and they play the file fine
playing the file with nero parser and nero decoder (which i assume you did) its jerky

I have 2005.03.03 ffdshow. Can't find newer build.
The WMP just crashes with this ffdshow build.

that build is obviously totally outdated
try this:

I've installed the latest and video runs ok. But what if I'll buy some AVc hardware player in future (Kiss dp700 for example) - will it play these x264 files correctly?

It's always the same question, can't people :search: ? This question can't be answered until this hardware is actually released. x264 follows the AVC specs, but as to what level and profile the hardware supports, and whether there will be any other "features", only time will tell. If you are so concerned about the future, keep your original sources anyway, so that you can encode them just as you want later.
